Well

Well done! Great judging. One thing. On MacRys you mentioned Mackie Lines. Despite googling them I dont follow what they are. Can you maybe explain them a bit more? Sounds interesting is all.

Yes Mackie lines! Here what I'm talking about. I first learned about it doing a project on solarization photography. It looks like edge or pencil light and I guess those could be..

In photographic science, a Mackie line is an adjacency or border effect created during development, at the border between areas of high and low densities.

During developing, developer remains relatively fresh in an area of low density as less developing takes place and consequently, developer oxidation product concentration remains relatively low. At the border between high and low density areas the relatively fresh developer diffuses laterally into the high density area and causes there a continuation of development. The result is an increased border density of the high density area.[1]

It is worth noting that Mackie heard many different theories to explain these lines (for over 30 years) and did NOT like any of them. Now that people observe these lines in the digital world, the chemical reasons for these lines may be only part of the story. There may also be quantum effects of light transmission involved, and people have developed different methods of scanning documents so as to minimize these effects in the digital world. Net: Mackie lines and different types of edge effects are far from a completely understood even today, and the level of the theory to apply may depend on the application at hand.

Great image! The silhouetted bells have just a touch of gold cast from the temple beyond them. You can see fine details and the rim of some of the bells, nice shadow and light going on there. I do like how the is a little kick of bright blue at the edges balancing the gold. Nice framing as well. Striking image. nice work.

Here are my picks

1st: anotherscotsman
2nd: zaphodtheprez
3rd: MacRy

Honorable mention: Aloko, Apple Fanboy, needfx, tomnavratil

My choice for first was based on the extra level of story in the image which was above and beyond just silhouettes. Technical considerations rounded out the rest.

Thanks again for participating. :)

Thanks a lot for your feedback and for the honorable mention @obeygiant - really appreciate it and great job on judging too! Congratulations to the winners and honorable mentions, a lot of great images this week again and various interpretations of the theme - landscapes, people, details, love it! :)

Congrats to the winners. There were so many nice, striking images this week and so many people could have won. After seeing so many striking images, I had thought about skipping this contest. Then I realized I had made a pinky promise with @tomnavratil to enter if he did. :)

And I'm glad you did @filmbufs, I had to use my archive once again as well in this case as I haven't got time for something new unfortunately.

Staggeringly good images this week. Well done everyone and a well deserved win.

@tomnavratil see, you were a contender! So keep at it mate.

On my image it was the colours that drew me to it but I needed the rail for the stable door effect. I was playing with longer exposures and was really happy with the set if images I got.

Well done everyone and onto the next.

Thanks @kenoh, it's always great to get this level of feedback!

The red is vivid and the performer seems to be in between areas of light. The framing is spacious and the vignette rounds the image nicely. I'm not sure if she's about to sing or just dancing/moving to the music. Captivating image.

Thanks to everyone for participating! I was giving the images an honest critique and I hope I didn't ruffle anyones feathers. This was the first time I've had to comment on so many images.

Congrats to the winners and thanks for takin the time to post a detailed review of your selection ObeyGiant.

For your information, the singer just hitted the stage and started with an acapella song.
It's funny that right after posting this picture in the contest I stumbled upon the singer inadvertantly for the first time since I took that picture about 2 years ago. I really like this pic, the signature is way too bright though !
