PHEW!
My guess is that with the lockdown restrictions easing in the UK, @akash.nu has been on a toot all weekend. Once he crawls back to his laptop, I'm sure he'll be well placed to judge .

@deep diver - Vibrant shots like this has become a rarity these days. The motion captures the hustle and bustle of the street and brings a natural flavour to the shot. If there is one thing I would like to mention is that the image feels a bit oversaturated in my eyes
I agree with your assessment, picture was a frame from a video. The camera was a cheap little camera attached to my helmet. I didn't feel like spending the bucks on a GoPro. I posted this early in the competition, lot of good pictures after mine. Picture does not give the illusion of speed, except this what it looks like to the rider. I would not be able to take any still photos with any decent camera and controls while piloting the bike, which is a full time job. Thanks handling this thread. You got it! ? .
Apologies for the delay guys. This was the first weekend out for me ?
So here goes... And I will be the first to admit that I do not have the skills to judge any of you and always feel uncomfortable judging the amazing talents in this forum. With that out of the way...
@Captain Trips - On point with the theme and good timing, was this a chance shot by any chance? I wish there was a little more space in the framing though and also the background is too bright, you probably need to dial down on the brightness a little bit in the background. Good shot nonetheless.
@Janichsan - Awesome shot. Love the colours and the lighting and also to the point of the theme. The slow shutter speed with the static foreground is working really well here. Good job.
@Allyance - This is a good capture and I do get the point of this being taken while you were riding the bike but I feel like there is no element of motion in the picture itself. That is a solid capture though.
@tizeye - I wish I could see that kind of launch in person. Unfortunately probably will never happen. You taking that shot from 5 miles away is commendable. That is probably the reason why there is a bit of graininess to the picture and is not sharp enough, also the lack of light didn't help either. Nonetheless, I do like the timing and the framing of the shot.

@oblomow - Brilliant! This is one of those textbooks shots that I would like to show as an example of where slow shutter speed works really well. I like the general colour balance of this shot and the motion has been captured perfectly. I feel like the Sky is a bit too bright, I would have probably tried to bring a little more out of the sky.
@r.harris1 - Lol... I am really intrigued if this was a well-planned shot or a shot you wanted to throw away and then saw the topic of the challenge this week. I like the creative side of this shot and the mishmash of colours. Feels like abstract art. Although, I do feel like there is a bit too much motion in it. As in when you need to explain what the subject is type motion. ?
@Hughmac - Very nice and sharp shot. Also to the point of the topic. Motion in the foreground and motion in the background. I do not have any complaint about this one at all.
@stillcrazyman - Nicely done ?. Very well-timed and perfectly captures the motion all around it. Love the reflection of the sun in the middle of the picture brightening the shot but at the same time not overexposing any part of it. The dog aligned perfectly with the sunlight and the blurred waves make the subject very clear.
@Clix Pix - Now now. That must have taken some patience. I love the wings being in focus just enough to be able to see them but also to convey that they are moving really fast. The foreground and background being perfectly still are giving it a solid contrast of motion against a solid backdrop. Depth of field is on point too. Very well composed. ?
@Buck987 - Aww ? ain't he cute?! The subject on point for sure, however, I feel like the framing is a bit too tight, we could do with a bit more background in my opinion.
@hodad66 - This is a solid shot. Perfect timing and it captures the motion really well without any slow shutter speed trickery.
@StrollerEd - I like the view. It also captures the motion well enough, I just feel like the foreground is dampening the shot a little bit. If you had moved closer to the railings to take the shot of the other boat I think it would have yielded a better result.
@mollyc - Brilliant shot. Never get disappointed with your entries. No comments required on this one. ?
@Dockland - Another awesome entry. I love the depth of field, the framing, the colour, pretty much everything about this shot. The subject is on point as well. Just wish you didn't have the blurred foreground and had some water instead.
@OldMacs4Me - Yep endless water, that's full-on motion alright. I feel like slow shutter speed would have made this composition better. Also, a little bit more background would have been better in my opinion.
@mackmgg - My mouth is open in astonishment. I have no words. Spellbound.
@thirsty_monk - This is a nice little composition. I love the simplicity and the way this was shot. Good one.
@Apple_Glen_UK - The motion is captured really well on this one. However, the foreground is a bit too distracting for me. I am guessing you didn't have a better vantage point to capture the shot. With what you had, this is a well-framed capture.
@cogi0490 - Nice evening shot. In general on point with the theme. I like the not oversaturated colour balance. I feel like you should have captured the boat when it was a little farther because at present it seems to be messing the foreground a bit too much.
And that's a wrap, guys. This has been one of the toughest challenges to judge with so many awesome shots. Please take all my comments with a huge grain of salt.
With that in mind, let's get down to the business.
3rd - @Clix Pix - for a brilliant entry that shows that awesome shots are achieved with patience.
2nd - @oblomow - for a solid uncompromising textbook style shot. @stillcrazyman - for my favourite this time around with a perfect mix of lighting and awesome composition.
1st - @mackmgg - for not only being on point with the theme but also for taking the most technically challenging shot in my opinion.
Shout out to @hodad66 / @mollyc and @Janichsan as well for some brilliant entries.
Once again, it was very difficult to choose just a handful out of so many good entries this time around. Thanks a lot for being the sports you guys are. See you all at the next challenge.
Valid criticisms all. As to shutter speed I was working with a P&S waterproof camera and needed -2/3rds stop EVB setting to prevent the highlights from blocking. Even at the minimum ISO of 64, that produced a shutter speed of 1/400 sec @ƒ8. Just no further control possible with that camera.@OldMacs4Me - Yep endless water, that's full-on motion alright. I feel like slow shutter speed would have made this composition better. Also, a little bit more background would have been better in my opinion.
Thank you for the excellent feedback. I do agree that indeed there is too much motion, for sure. It was planned but...just ever so slightly overdone . I’m glad you had a less “lock-downy“ weekend. May there be many more! You got it! ? .

Thanks! FWIW my personal preference is still the original, but the frozen second shot is a close second. However we all have different tastes which is what makes this so much fun.Wow thanks! It's a good thing you were out all weekend, because I was too! Just got back from camping today, so I wouldn't have seen anything anyway. Lots of great pictures for this one! I'll try and come up with a new theme tomorrow.
@OldMacs4Me As another perspective, I personally like shots of white water with it frozen more than blurred! I've got an ND, but I feel like I almost never use it because it's not the style I'm usually looking for.
Nonono! That's not the rule. 2nd place means that you're safe!!@mackmgg has been lurking around but is almost overdue for posting the next contest. If it isn't up in the next 12 hours then @oblomow and @stillcrazyman will have to figure it out between them.
Nonono! That's not the rule. 2nd place means that you're safe!!
Not even getting an honorable mention means you will never be considered. Even as a backup judge. Or even as the 20th backup... ?2nd means you have the illusion of being safe. 3rd means you're really safe.
Nonono! That's not the rule. 2nd place means that you're safe!!
@mackmgg will show up. Really. Trust me. (and if not, then I will post a new contest tomorrow)
2nd means you have the illusion of being safe. 3rd means you're really safe.
This is what I think as well. 2nd means you’re living life on the edge. Literally!
