I think the problem with simply stating "Light" as the subject is that light itself is so elusive, yet it surrounds us, we live in it, so our natural instinct is to find something tangible to represent light, usually something which is lighted up, shining, either from within or with something shining light directly on it. Darkness contrasting with something shining out from an artificial light source..... etc. With natural light, yes, people think of fog, which diffuses light, sometimes creating a special magic, or sunsets and sunrises, or, as you mentioned, sunflares (sometimes called "sunstars") radiating light. Sunshine and shadows flirting with each other is often a way people choose to show "light," too. On the surface, such a seemingly simple and obvious subject, "light," but it can be surprisingly complex.....

yes, that's why I didn't want to categorize it too much. it's just a silly internet challenge anyway. 🙂

was pleased with overall participation once I whined about the lack of entries. 🥳😂

I was surprised, too, that there weren't more entries for a while -- it was good that you did speak up. Also, I wonder if maybe since in the US we had a three-day weekend some people had more time to either shoot something or to rummage through their archives for a suitable image?

Yes, these things are difficult when it comes to picking a topic -- pick something too broad and you get a million entries. Pick something too narrow and you get only a few entries or you get a lot of the same sort of image as interpretations can be or are similar. Picking the topic for these competitions is definitely a challenge!

I haven't been in quite some time and I really need to get back out there one of these days. The second time I went there I got stuck in the sand and had to get towed out and ever since I haven't been back 😅
Oh man, were you heading down the trail to Font's Point? The sand is definitely deep there. Same goes for the loop at Clark Dry Lake. Both places are photographer magnets, but you definitely need a 4WD with some clearance.

If I remember correctly (this is roughly 3 years ago) it was around the dragon sculpture. Back then, I did only have a FWD vehicle, now I do have a AWD with a bit of clearance, not quite the level of 4WD but when I do venture back ill still be more mindful of some of the areas.

@tizeye well, you also missed the cutoff, but a great photo from a unique vantage point.

Okey dokey, here concludes my assessment. Really, so happy so many of you ultimately participated. ❤️

OOPS. Don't know why was thinking last day was the 11th. Just out of touch as visited son in CT Oct 6-10, so everything just jumbled together. Was going to post some stuff I posted in past before I left, but held off for something new. Had the window seat so was a good time to experiment as left New Haven. Cranked the ISO up to 6400 and using an 85mm f1.8 experiments. Many (all) the shutter speed was to slow to handhold so most had light movement. Only had two that were useable. While still climbing, so a lower angle have one of the Staten Island shoreline. Most of the mid-Atlantic was unremarkable and the Savannah lit up the sky. Handheld at 1/8 second, f2.2 and for some unknown reason exposure compensation -0.7. That is the one thing I dislike about my camera as brush against EV and it will change, corrected in next model with button to depress to change EV dial.

Got home at 11PM, and thinking I had until the next day processed first thing in morning.
