I have been using a 12.9 with cellular iPad basically since they came out. I have a 32 inch monitor at my desk with a computer, but I am on the run often. When I meet with clients away from my office, my iPad is the absolute best device for my needs. I almost always have it connected to the magic keyboard. Best device I own, and I have Mac Minis, and iMac, and a Macbook Pro in the house.

My thoughts exactly, the Mini has been calling my name for months, but I know the smart thing to do is just continue using my 12.9 w/magic keyboard as I have been for 3 years. I could try and justify replacing my Kindle with a Mini, but I know myself, and I wouldn’t read, I’d jump on Twitter or MacRumors lol. My 12.9 replaced a MacBook Pro and I haven’t looked back.
In 2015 I had Mabook pro 15” and then iPad Pro 12.9 by early 2016 I had sold my MacBook Pro and have been 12.9 iPad Pro since then upgrading every year loving each upgrade doesn’t everything I need and use it everyday still

I had the first 2 generations of the 12.9, but when the 11“ iPP came out, I grabbed it up. Having a Mac I didn’t really need the larger pro.

I wound up selling my M1 iMac because I realized I rarely turned it on, so I wanted to go larger on the iPad for the desk. It just so happened my sister-in-law wanted an 11” pro, so I sold my pro and all accessories to her a couple months ago, and got another 12.9.

For the desk it’s perfect for me. I love the larger MK for typing, and the screen is great. With the MK, I find it pretty easy to use in my lap as well. It’s a bit much for me to have lying on the couch or in bed so I wind up using my phone most of the time in that situation (To be fair, I rarely used my 11” pro in those situations either).

I’ve been trying to decide if I want to get a mini for that, OR just go to a max phone this fall, but I won’t be giving up my 12.9 pro.

I did the opposite, had a 2015 27” imac sold it and it used a M1 12.9” for few months, way too small for a desktop, got a 24” iMac, sold the iPad 3 weeks Ago and haven’t missed it.
A wifi 256gb with MKB is $100AU more than I paid for my 8/512gb 24” iMac, that’s nuts.
Even A M1 MacBook Air 256gb is $1000AU cheaper.
Could buy that and a mini 6 too and still have $330 change lol

Disagree, people that go on about the weight of iPads/iphone must really struggle with everyday life, there would heaps of things you lift or carry that is heavier Lol.
I know a guy who's a professional diver. This muscle-bound dude told me he wouldn't carry around a 16" MacBook Pro because it puts too much weight at certain body points and causes fatigue over time.

It has nothing to do with going to the gym. Some things are just unpleasant to carry after awhile.

It’s funny because I typed out my post, and then I was thinking yesterday how ridiculous it is that I have a device that’s more expensive than my computer was. The only thing is, I can take the iPad with me when I travel, and pretty much do everything I need with it, so it streamlined my devices. Yes I could travel with a laptop, but I’ve never had any desire to own a laptop.

Another plus for me is the ability to have another cellular device. We have horrible, limited wifi where I am and having a cellular iPad is nice (even though our cell service sucks pretty badly too).

It definitely is nice to have that larger screen of a desktop to look at. The problem is, I just don’t do enough to really justify it. I likely had the perfect setup with the 11” pro, desktop, phone, and watch, but it was overkill.

I enjoy my 12.9 as it's ideal for on the bike at home doing workouts and for general media for sports e.t.c. that said I'm tempted by a smaller iPad for on the go and at work on my break e.t.c. I did think go for the iPad mini but I dunno if to get the 11 inch iPad Pro again as I do love 120hz.

I’ve moved to a 12.9 and mini 6 combination As well and I’m loving it. Surprisingly, the 12.9 has become by book reader of choice even in bed, i don’t seem to feel fatigued as I thought I would, the mini 6 stays in my bag for travel purposes only. at home everything is on the 12.9, My 14 MacBook pro gets used only for work

Well I did it.

Years of using normal iPads, trying minis (too small), and then settling with the 11' iPad Pro format (used it as my primary computing device for several years) I decided I'd forgo an iPad this year.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a 16' MBP and it was the 16' MBP that made me want to get rid of my iPad (and I did).

I found the 11' too small to comfortably write on vs paper. While reading on it was perfect, that's about all I did with it so it was hard to justify the $. After a few months without an iPad this year, I got tempted by an open box offer at Best Buy - almost $300 off - just the iPad itself, a current generation 512GB iPad Pro 12.9.

First time ever using one and ... initially I was disappointed with how some sites/apps didn't utilize the full screen space. But then, after a few hours with the iPad I started realizing - I could set vertical scroll on, up the text size a bit and it would use a lot more of the margins in Books. Some apps (that I used to use the website for) were made for the 12.9 iPad. And the screen space grew on me very quickly.

Writing on the 12.9 feels like a sheet of paper - endless space to write makes it a much more viable paper replacement for me. (I do a lot of note taking/writing throughout the day).

I could never replace the sit down and just read for 5 hours non stop on my iPhone or MBP. Last night I read for several hours straight. It was pleasant to use and the way I use it (propped up on a body pillow in my reading chair) - felt great.

Biggest thing for me was that I wanted a device that I could sit down and read on for hours and hours comfortably and use as a notebook.

I have no desire to use my iPad like anything other than an ebook/news reader and a notebook so hopefully it'll last a long time.

Vs the iPad Pro 11? Screen is noticeably brighter, imo a bit sharper, and wow it gets really dark on true black scenes/screens. The sound is jaw dropping amazing.

On another note - noticed that AppleCare+ shows next renewal 2030 with no other options/information. <shrug>. That's a new one.

I'm going to see how it looks with an iCarez matte screen protector and go from there. But so far I really like what I'm seeing - this might be a 3-5 year keeper! I think I can join the 12.9 convert crowd now.

Welcome to the club!! I love my iPad Pro 12.9! I was going into school with the 11” pro and loved it but then I saw a classmates 12.9 pro and knew that I needed it. (Need is a strong word, but the feeling was real!) From lectures to lab my 12.9 has been a champ! Even in the cadaver lab covered with a water tight bag so we could use it to see Netter’s Human Atlas clearer. 😬

Just in case anyone here needs to waterproof your 12.9 iPad Pro (AKA cadaver lab safe :))

WOW this thing charges like a lightning bolt on a MBP charger. lol. My iPad Pro 11 (at least from what I can remember) didn't charge anywhere near this fast.

I'll hook it up to a kill-a-watt next time I charge it.

Writing on this thing is ... WOW. So nice to have all this space. :D. (Notability). Really enjoying having a device that I can comfortably sit down and read for hours on again.

I often charge my M1 11 & 12.9 at the same time (120W USB-C multi-port charger). Going from 50% to 90% takes around the same time on both (around an hour give or take).

The 12.9 pulls around 35-40W from the wall (as measured by TP-Link Smart Plug) while the 11 tops out at around 30W. Makes sense considering the battery on the 12.9 is much bigger.

Now I’ve noticed the Air 4 charges slower than my Pro 11.

Honey moon period? After 3 years of 12.9” I’m considering iPad Mini (like after 8 plus and XS I’m now enjoy my 12 mini) to have something more portable and light.
Yep. Over 2k votes and a split down the middle on 11 vs 12.9. There's no "one size fits all". Team 11" since 2018 with zero regrets.

11" is the better sitting down iPad for reading on imo, 12.9" makes a good desktop tv

I was about to upgrade to a 32" monitor when I realized a 43" 4K TV was larger and cheaper! I could’ve gone with a 50" for the same price but just didn’t have the desk space. Love the 43" during the work day and enjoy the 12.9 IPP off-hours.

The IPP is my first iPad ever. The 12.9 in-store was plenty light, but heavier than my M1 MBA after slapping on a screen protector, Apple Pencil, and Logitech Combo Touch and so I returned it for the 11" IPP thinking I value portability more after downsizing from years of max-size phones to an iPhone 13 Pro. I quickly missed the extra screen real estate and returned the 11" for the 12.9 again. This time I’m not trying to make the IPP replace my MBA and I enjoy it much more as a pure tablet. Also works better for violin sheet music than the 11". I don’t think I’ll need to upgrade anytime soon, but if I ever do I don’t think I can go smaller than the 12.9.

I'll always stick with the 12.9 - for me the size is perfect. Even reading books in bed, I prefer it over the Mini 6 and Kindle Oasis. I've also had the Air 2 & 10.5 but 12.9 is a better size for me.

A long time ago I tried the 12.9 but found it problematic but my use case has changed similar to yours. I can’t wait to see the new 12.9 I may give it another go I miss the real estate on web pages and reading documents.
