I sold my 3GS on ebay and got a 3G for a steal of 100$ .. HUGE HUGE difference in EVERYTHING .. Its a whole different experience using a 3GS compared to a 3G. Everything is so fluid on the 3GS i loved using my phone everything was instant .. going back to the 3G i hate it.. i mean its an iphone so i am happy but the whole user experiance is downgraded.. i know people say i am ok with my 3G i dont need it.. believe me if you spent 10 min with a 3gs you would know what i am talking about.. now i am just holding out for the new iphone.. cant wait

I hear you because one of my sons has a 3G now because he only wanted to spend $50 he is smart with his $ and I have a 3GS, when I try to help him, it's as if I was not even working on a real iPhone, the 3G is really much slower and just strange to work on, but that's why I have the 3GS, I am not even sure I will upgrade to the newer one unless there is a real compelling reason.
I've been with the 3G since launch day (waiting for the new phone this summer). I wish I had never used or played with a 3GS... sooo much faster, it's silly. I'm tempted to find a used 3GS to bridge the time from now till summer... but I can be patient. Come on WWDC!
I've still got the 3G, I'm waiting for the summer, but I've setup my girlfriend's 3GS and played with it for a bit and I agree it's a great bit of kit, but let's keep it in perspective, the 3G is still a great phone.

Most people will be able to get the discount if they bought the 3GS in June. I bought mine in October, so they say October for me. That's really not a long time to wait.
some people don't spend enough on their monthly bill to get a new subsidized phone every year (at least not in the states) and have to wait every 2 years. I'm finally upgrade eligible in March 2010 (bought the iPhone 3G on launch day).
I gotta say... although my iPhone 3G is not as fast as a 3GS, animations, scrolling and general graphics performance are smooth as butter on 2.2.1. Until they address the graphics issues with 3.x, I'll stay on 2.2.1. This is probably the last iPhone I ever own.

I was out dinkin around in the snow last week and when I got back inside I pulled my 3GS out of my pocket only to be met with no sound and "This accessory is not made to blah blah......". I powered it off and swapped the SIM over to my spare 1st gen and the half hour I spent synching everything over and arranging my icons was a nightmare.

I understand that not everyone can afford a new iPhone each year but selling the old one unlocked and jb always makes up for more than enough of the early upgrade price.

Thats the price you pay when you are eligable and sign a 2 year agreement with AT&T.
Usually Iphone 3G models sold out of contract thru ebay or Craigslist etc. go for around $200-300 easy.
When they are both jailbroken, they both are the exact same to me. Nothing so great you gotta slap yo momma about.
