Nope, I'm not trolling. This has been my experience. 2.2.1 is fast and responsive on my iPhone and it still makes it feel more like a 3GS. Scrolling, launching app animation, iPod app... it's all smooth as butter. I know you don't wanna accept that this is the case, but it is. My iPhone runs like a dog when I upgraded to 3.x.x, so I just leave it at 2.2.1 and it's great.

This is all based on my own personal experience, plus trial and error of upgrading and using 3.x.x. There's no denying that 3.0 was made for the 3GS and 2.0 was made for the 3G. 1.0 was made for the original iPhone, but since the original and the 3G were almost the same exact hardware, 2.0 ran the same on both.

ok let me just THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE.. just because you dont have a 3GS you made yourself believe that a 3G running 2.2.1 is as fast.. they upgraded the ram the processing speed. The 3GS IS faster no matter what.. its not up for argument.. ok so what your telling me is that an original iphone running 2.2.1 is as fast as a 3GS come on man..Bu11Sh>t and you know it

My wife's 3g died and I gave her my 3gs and her reaction was WOW I should have switched sooner...lol. It's a big difference.

I'm afraid you're mistaking smooth to mean speed. All animations and scrolling is smoother on 2.2.1. However, when I upgrade my 3G to 3.x.x, everything gets laggier. Scrolling, opening/closing apps. 2.2.1 is the faster OS. There's no denying that. Sure, the 3G isn't going to be as fast as the 3GS, but with 2.2.1, it feels just as smooth... You just have to wait an extra second for your app to be ready to use.

Fact is, I've tried every iPhone OS Apple has ever made and 2.2.1 is as good as an iPhone 3G can get as far as stability and overall performance.

Don't get it twisted yo.

iPhone 3GS: 3.0 runs great on it
iPhone 3G: 3.0 runs slower and lags

iPhone 3G: 2.2.1 runs great on it

These are my findings.

Spaz, did you actually downgrade your 3G from 3.0 to 2.2.1 or did you just refrain from ever upgrading it? Because I've tried downgrading mine using some of the guides on the net and it never works. I upgraded my iPhone every time a software upgrade came out and I don't remember when it started, but for at least the last 6 months it's been so laggy that I'm beginning to hate it. I've tried a number of suggestions I found by Googling to speed it up and nothing works for very long. I would love to have the snappy, unlaggy old 2.2.1 back.

Most people will be able to get the discount if they bought the 3GS in June. I bought mine in October, so they say October for me. That's really not a long time to wait.

Wrong... I got my 3G on Lauch day and I couldn't upgrade until Dec.....basically 18 months...so I decided I would wait for the new one.:apple:
