Yeah I do think Apple does a good job of giving each model unique and attractive characteristics. I currently have a 14, and while I love it, I did end up ordering a 15pro, mostly for the camera. Not that the 14 doesn't take great photos, but I do love the macro shots of flowers and such on the pro, and the optical zoom is great, too. We'll see whether I regret giving up my 14 (I'm also not thrilled by the pro color options--I love my product Red!, but I'm looking foward to my new phone.
any issues with heat on your pro?

Buying a product, deciding you don’t like the product, and having the ability to return it is extremely important to any business. I know if I wanted to spend $6k on a Mac or $6k on a PC… one has a restocking fee, or an unfavorable return policy, another has a great return policy. Guess which one I, and most people are going with.

But you can get much much nicer genuine leather from third party case makers (I got one for $49) and leather >>>>> finewoven
yes I know and maybe I will buy one sooner or later. But now, for everyday use, I will purchase an aramid case with open bottom and buttons, for the as slim as possible experience. And the silicone if I feel like a particular outing could be more risky (beach, sports, bar visits....)

Definitely pros/cons to each device,
This makes me think they should name the regular iPhones “iPhone Con”, would simplify the decision and surely boost the Pro sales further. ;)

I'm not sure what a restocking fee is but I do think Apple need to do something about the people who buy multiple iPhones especially when they are new releases, review them and then return them.

And for this reason I agree a returns policy needs to be in place as it's really important but something does need to be put in place for those who abuse it.

I went from iPhone 12 Pro Max to iPhone 15 Plus and I don’t regret it at all. It actually FEELS like NEW device. When I was holding the 15 Pro Max at the Apple Store, it felt like I was just holding my old 12 PM. Pretty „eh“ about it. Down to it’s blue color looking almost identical.

I am also one of those people that do not notice ProMotion and I never take Macro photos. Weight and battery life was more important to me

I don't think I'd miss pro motion, but I do use the macro photography often, which was the main reason I went pro max instead of plus. That and I figured I might regret not having the action button down the road.

I also looked at the fine wovens, and actually liked their looks & feel. Only the sides could be grippier.
However, the exhibits they had in the store already showed wear (1 day after they put them on display), and not in a very pleasant form - unlike the leather cases with their patina that sometimes made them look even better, the fine wovens looked like a not in a good way worn piece of fabric (which in fact they were).
So they are not for me - I will go for an Aramid case, and maybe a silicone for rougher outings.
The way things are handled by many in the Apple Store can result in anything getting trashed. Too early to judge, but the FineWoven case on my 15 Pro doesn't have a mark on it. What I like about it is that it is almost weightless and all the side buttons including the action button are covered and work well.

Sure, but what looks worn out & ugly after 1 day in the Apple Store will look similar in my hands after how many weeks? 2? 3? But like you said, too early for a final judgement.

I find the action button is in such an awkward position when you hold your phone, i would probably hardly use it. I am fine with double and triple tapping the back of the phone. It should be positioned below the power button (in my opinion)

Probably a useless thread for many, but posting anyway in case anyone cares.

I have the pro max, but really wanted to look at everything in person - phones, cases, watch bands, etc. I know some people don’t have Apple stores nearby, so maybe

I’m happy with my pro max, but I have to say - the back glass on the non-pros is so unique, and feels amazing! I was really back and forth between the plus and pro max, and I don’t think I would’ve been disappointed if I’d have gone with the plus. I didn’t find the weight difference between it and the pro max to be very noticeable when holding them both, but possibly because I’ve gotten used to the weight of the max, so it no longer seems noticeably heavier. The regular 15 almost felt like a mini in my hand - it felt super light. I didn’t pick up the regular size pro to compare it to the 15, mainly because it wasn’t on my radar (the 15 wasn’t either, but I needed to see how light it was - lol). I don’t think there’s a bad choice with the phones this year.

I‘ve been reading a lot of negatives about the cases as well. IDK how they’d hold up, but I thought they looked and felt good. They had marks and scratches, but leather does that as well. I didn’t expect to have an opinion because I’m a pretty loyal Loopy case user, but I always envy the Apple case/wallet combo - just can’t give up the dang loop. I was pretty tempted to buy one though.

I like the material on the modern buckle watch bands as well. Not sure they’re worth the price (and the modern buckle isn’t my fave), but they feel almost like a soft suede. I think they would be really comfortable to wear, and they had a couple of great colors.

Overall I am glad there are choices, but wish there weren’t so many choices if that makes sense. LOL Definitely pros/cons to each device, and sometimes it’s difficult to decide exactly which things are the priority. A lightweight phone is nice for holding, but you have to give up certain extras to get it. For some the weight wins out, but for some they’d love the lighter weight, but really want the extra features. I love the variety, but also kinda miss those decisions being made for me. ;-p

Hello, thanks for your feedback, I love the design of the pro’s now that they rounded the sharp edges off, the only thing I really dislike is the back glass. The frosted glass look is better than the old glossy stuff, but it’s still brittle and I don’t consider any kind of glass to be premium at all. I wish they’d go back to metal, a titanium back to match the frame would be ideal and look soooo good!

A main driver for most upgrades is the camera.

1 of 2 people replace their phones in 3-5 years.

So a 14 Pro user would likely replace to a 17 Pro or 19 Pro.

I know people who keep their iPhones nearing a decade.

With 2027 EU law mandating replaceable batteries I wonder what that will mean to future replacements. Will these people keep theirs approaching 2 decades?

Faster cellular data standards are released every decade. 6G is expected in 2030.

Love this post! I have to add that holding the pro max without a case is amazing. The weight and feel of the titanium with the back makes it feel like a solid piece of metal. The curves are also seamless and a joy. It’s the best iPhone ever made for sure.

It really is nice! I wish I wasn’t afraid to go caseless. Lol

Funny - I’m 55, and just now getting to a point where I want to try and stick with a phone for 2 years because I typically upgrade every year. I need to get with the times here. ;-p
Nah just upgrade and have fun if you want. Life is short

I wouldn’t be surprised if a red pro comes out in spring with all the leaks originally pointing to a red pro phone. Manifesting that for you! I love my blue 15 pro max. It’s everything I’ve been waiting for. Planning to keep it longer than usual.

Curious as to why you upgrade every year. Is it because you go commando and like a different colored phone each year? Rough on the screen and it gets scratched? It can't be the hardware, as so little has changed since 2020, and the major improvements are now UI based.

3 years for me as that is the duration of the AT&T promotional discounts which got me two iPhone 15 256's for free with the trade in of two iPhone 12 256's. $0 out of pocket. Nothing. Free. And we've been with AT&T for 16 years so they could have had me at 'hello'.

Nice post thank you for your insight - very helpful! I’m finding the PM/ plus almost too large lol - I need something in between 😅😅😅😅

Oh it’s not free paying the high plan prices. Want to leave? Things happen… Phone needs to be paid off first.
