When you configure your iMac order on Expercom’s web site, you can choose whether you want Apple memory or Expercom memory. If you choose Apple memory, then I’m virtually certain that your rig will be shipped and sealed from Apple.

(It will probably get shipped to Utah first, and then to you, but Expercom won’t even open the box. Expercom simply order your configuration from Apple, and Apple configure it and ship it to Expercom, who then send it on to you. At least that’s the way it worked when I configured-to-order my last two iMacs from Small Dog Electronics. I would have ordered from them again, but they couldn’t match Expercom’s discount.)

Of course, Expercom’s RAM is cheaper than Apple’s, but not as cheap as buying and upgrading the RAM yourself (assuming this is a 27"-inch iMac). If you configure it with the base 8 GB of Apple RAM, you should get a pristine iMac untouched by Utah hands, and for the same US $200 it would cost you to upgrade to 16 GB of RAM from Apple, you can upgrade to 40 GB instead.

Thanks! Followed your lead and purchased from Expercom. Saved quite a bit.....Total was $3488 for 32 GB (non-Apple), and the same machine direct from Apple with 8 GB was $3726 PLUS the cost of 3rd party RAM. Looking at saving about $500. And for only $27.50 it will be here in 2-5 days!

I might look to reconfigure my order with 8 GB so I can upgrade to 40 GB with 3rd-party RAM....I think that saves another $100 but not sure right now.

Thanks again for the tip!

My old imac needed new screen, new logic board and new 512 ssd which were all replaced by apple. My old 2012 MBP needed HD and logic board replaced right near the end. AC has saved me $1000's. Aside from being able to call them whenever I'm stuck. Vehement yes.

How long into the AC did that happen. Also, those would be manufacturing issues, so wouldn't the customer protection law still protect you for replacements?

I'm in the UK so things might be different, but in April 2017, Apple replaced the hard drive in my (4.3 year old) Dec 2012 iMac free of charge under EU consumer law. Had several similar other instances where Apple have repaired a device free of charge despite it being out of warranty, so I've never bothered with AppleCare.

Same here, in the UK too, which is why I'm asking. Under the EU consumer law we get those 5 years (Scotland) which surpases the 3 apple care give you. I know apple care gives you accidental damage too, but not expecting much of that to happen.

Curious. Where are the discounts on the Expercom site?

How much discount are you getting through expercorn?

I'm in the UK and can get 6% through my EPP. I was wondering if there is anything easily achievable here in the UK

The total discount comes from several places...you get a discount by typing “newimac” into tbe code box at checkout, no sales tax, and their memory is cheaper than Apple.

"NEW Vega 48 iMac gaming test: is it any good?"

"In today's video we're going to put the Vega 48 in the new top of the line 2019 iMac! I'll be testing a variety of recent AAA games as well as a bit of a CPU test of the Core i9 9900K."

So Expercom CS was great..... modified my order to get the base 8 GB, so now my total savings vs ordering from Apple is $538. Just ordered the Crucial 32 GB RAM from Amazon for $189 + tax, so now I’ll have 40 GB for $100 less than the price for the 32 GB I originally ordered from Expercom.

Can you buy BrexitCare, in case you lot crash out of the EU and a future hard-line Brexiteer government decide not to carry over all those EU consumer protection laws? ;-)

(Lest you think me smug, I think our U.S. government even more dysfunctional, and our consumer protection laws aren’t even remotely so generous.)

You are quite right with the brexitCare issue. I actually thought about it earlier this morning

The UK warranties exceed the EU’s. Apple have to warranty UK goods for 6 years.

I own iPad pro and older PC. I prefer the whole system by Apple with AC plus extended warranty by Citi. I don't do anything heavy duty, but planning on some nice games and Photoshop and I don't want to run short on anything in couple of years. Originally my budget was around 3K, but after reading tons of posts and reviews I figured decent size SSD is a must and 8-core and Vega is preferable. This is probably overkill for my needs but I'm thinking following:

27"
8-core
16GB
Vega
1TB

Of course 32GB and 2TB would be awesome but now I'm getting close to pro pricing, which would be a dream but I have to cut it at some point trying to find that sweet spot.

Please advise if my logic makes sense or should I adjust it up or down.

It seems that there aren't many musicians on here. I'm looking to get one of the 5k iMacs, and my primary computer work involves recording vocals, music production and mixing (all on Logic Pro X). I don't know very much about how important all these specs are, so I'm hoping to get some advice from some of you. Besides audio recording and editing, I sometimes edit 1080p videos on Final Cut Pro, sometimes do minor edits to photos on Photoshop, and I may dabble in the occasional gaming on the iMac as well.

Any suggestions as to which 5k model would be right for me? Would the 3.7GHz version be worth my while verses the base 3.0GHz model, and what other specs should I consider (besides the obvious SSD upgrade)? The i9, the Vega, etc?

You might find this video interesting. He tests the i9 iMac (with the 575X GPU) for Logic against older models (unfortunately not other 2019 models though). From this video, I'd say you probably won't need the top-spec model for music production, unless you need to run 120 instances of Sylenth simultaneously for some reason. ;)

Thanks so much for sharing that! I wish that there'd be some kind of comparison of the results in performance between the base model 5k iMac and the upper end one. Maybe soon!
