What are Macbook Air owner doing for a living? :)

Hey, I just wonder since its frequently bitched about that all Apple Macbook Air users are probably CEO suits manager types looking to impress and work on that important keynote speech on the airplane before having the next Martini :)

So what are you MBA people do for a living? CEO of a mega cooperation? Desperate house wifes? Funky DJ? Render-mad design people? 70ies Hippie looking for enlightment in everything Mac? :)

I am a research fellow at the University and I am working manly with Matlab and C++ in the area of image processing/understanding and computer modelling .... and who is in the process of justifying to himself that he really should get an AIR.

To write his Matlab programs at the airport before getting another Martini :)

Still considering...

And fingers crossed that Germany wins on Sunday, come on!

Well I'm definitely not a CEO. Wouldn't like the pressure :eek:

I'm a systems engineer for a consultancy firm. I like my job, but the company I work for deals exclusively with Microsoft technologies :eek::eek:

I don't often bust out the MBA at work, but it makes me feel good when I do. I used to use my MBP as my daily computer, but they didn't like that, so gave me a big lump of Dell.

Still, Fridays are usually a bit quiet, so the MBA making an appearance doesn't generate too many problems for me.

I'm a Consultant. I live in Long Island and commute to NYC every day. It's nice to have something light weight and running OS X.

My current client uses a Citrix infrastructure, so I can fire up the Citrix ICA client and get all my windows apps on my Mac.

It also allows me to do some learning of the SDK on my down time.

For all the bitching I see on these boards about it, I absolutely love mine. Its light, its fast, the screen and keyboard are great. I don't have any heating or warping issues and I haven't had any need for the superdrive or more USB ports (yet). I'm pretty happy with my purchase.

I'm a full-time Software Engineer. And for what I do, the MBA is fantastic.

About 90% of the time, I'm running the Eclipse IDE, OmniGraffle, oXygen XML Editor, as well as iWork 08, Safari, and Mail.

I'm definitely not a CEO.

I'm a writer.

I mainly use the MBA for word processing and to surf the web, but I also use it to edit photos, analyze data in Numbers, and do some light html/css work. It's perfect for all those things.

Thanks a lot

for sharing what you do and what you use your MBA for.

Since from many reviews one get the impression this computer is maxed out with word processing and e-mail reading. :)

And by no means I wanted to speak badly of CEO's :) (Why just in this moment the image of Dilbert boss comes into my mind is beyond me...)

im a dental ceramist, who stores dental images/smiles of patients so i can use that data to produce fantastic restorations.

sometimes ill take photos of the restorations for my personal gallery.

granted, any laptop can do what i use it for, but none of them look so sexy, and can easily travel with if/when i need to see the clinicians.

i mainly use my air for surfing the net, chatting, itunes and iphoto.
as you can see, i dont use any intenstive tasks on it and i love my air

I am in private equity and don't use my laptop beyond your typical office products. However, I don't currently own a macbook air. I would love to get one with ssd but 64gb is not quite large enough. I am going to wait a little and might just get one with hdd if apple doesn't release an update with a larger ssd.

I'm a technical assistance manager of an italian company (in the telecommunication business) and I'm responsible for the Russian market, I'm italian but I live in Moscow as expat and I use my air only as home computer for email, web surfing and word processing.

I bring it with me every time I come back to Italy and in that circumstances I use it in our italian factory with Lotus Notes Client to access our document databases and mail system.

I like to travel with light hand luggage and i was tired of my heavy dell!

As of this July I will be a Master of Commerce student. Until the previous week I was a computer repair technician (PCs) and moonlighting as a web designer and business consultant (focusing on the use of technology in the workplace), which I am still doing.

My Macbook Air was mostly used to take with me to meetings or libraries which are my preferred "office" to get away from all distractions and do work from.

In school it will serve as my in-class (if necessary) computer as well.

At home, I mostly use my iMac and hardly ever my Air (when I do it is plugged in). In fact I have had the Air since it first became available in stores and I am only on my 26th battery cycle with 96% health though I expect that to change very quickly once I am in school.

Run 3 companies.
1 is a software company. Yourcostcenter.com I travel a lot giving seminars, using the Air for emails, powerpoint, Ichat, (so I can stay in touch with the wife and kids) and use Netsuite (on Safari)for all company marketing, CRM and accounting. Use Firefox for all our programs behind the scenes controls.
2 is a commercial painting company. Use Excel, MYOB, Filemaker Pro.
3 is a Ballet School with my wife. Same software as above except Quickbooks. instead of MYOB.
Since Feb., I only use the Air. I have the SDD drive and have no issues whatso ever with room. Still have 29GB left.

Only issue I have is temp. case gets warm and fan kicks on alot. But in no way a deal breaker.

I'm a network engineer and this box is perfect for a small portable terminal when on-site at a customer. Just hook up the USB -> Serial dongle, bring up Zterm and you're golden.

I'm a network engineer as well. I used the MBA on a couple occasions to do on site configuration. I've bought a USB to serial (DB9) null cable to connect to routers and servers through console and it works great. It's lightweight and very capable for network admin tasks. I'm using it also in a MIDI studio to do electronic music and it works quite alright. Otherwise, I'm travelling regularly and I bring it with me in hotel rooms. That's a nice machine. ;)

I work in Cancer research support and am going to school for Project management. My MBA is my one and only Media/Entertainment/Homework machine, as the Gov't supplies my PC at work.

I am retired, but currently work a bit:

I am a college professor who teaches undergrad and graduate courses on two campuses of the same university. I also write and have a new book coming out soon.

Also run a consultant/development firm that is heavily involved in bringing two new products to market, managing a virtual business with people on both coasts, and providing consultant services to existing clients.

I use the MBA for everything. Still have a MBP at home and I use its larger hard drive to backup my iphone, itunes, etc. All the rest of the work gets done on the MBA. I am quite happy with it, but hope to replace it with a new MBA that has:
1. larger hard drive
2. more USB ports.

For me, the MBA was a no-brainer because of its light weight, great screen, and good keyboard. I use primarily Office along with Tinderbox, Devonthink Pro, Curio, and NoteTaker.
