What are we expecting from iOS4 on the iPad?

Is anyone expecting a full-featured version of iOS 4 when it hits the iPad this fall?

I'm concerned (maybe that's too strong a word) that we're not going to get multitasking based on the fact that the iPhone has more RAM than the iPad and, as far as I understood it, it is generally thought that was necessary to run multitasking efficiently.

I guess that's the biggest thing I'm concerned about. I can't see them not offering app grouping; basically I would expect at least the same functionality as one would get installing iOS 4 on an iPhone 3G.

I just really hope we get multitasking and will be bummed if it's not included.
 
my guess, it will have some kind of custom iOS4. it will get multitasking, pretty sure they confirmed that. The way folders is implemented will be interesting. lke ti cant work the way it works on iPhone, maybe it will be a pop-over not a hole screen shift.

Worry not my friend, as multitasking will be sure to be included.

It works fine on the iPhone 3GS and the iPad has the same amount of RAM + the A4 processor. Multitasking will be fine.

I, myself, am waiting for printing as silly as that sounds.
 
Aside from folders, multitasking, and unified inbox for Mail...

I'm hoping that when you run iPhone apps on it at the 2x size, that it uses the high res graphics used on an iPhone 4 (if available for that app). It would make those apps that don't yet have iPad specific versions look a lot nicer.

I can't wait till iOS 4 on the iPad. It is an extremely powerful machine, and some multitasking won't make it bug out.
 
Multi-tasking will be included in the iPad version of iOS 4 for sure. I'm really hoping that the iPad will skip 4.0 and jump to 4.1 along with the iPhone and iPod touch (unifying all the features of iOS 4 across the devices), which will hopefully include wireless syncing.

Doesn't anyone else feel that wireless syncing should've been in the iPad since day one? If we have to plug it into the wall with our sync cable in order to get it to charge in a reasonable amount of time, wireless syncing is a must! Otherwise, we have to deal with the hassle of constantly moving the sync cable from a wall outlet to our computers. This isn't much of an issue for anyone who already owns an iPod or iPhone, of course, but that's not 100% of iPad users. I'm being really hopeful here, and even though wireless syncing will most likely come in iOS 5, I'll just keep hoping for it to arrive sooner.
 
I also think it would be awesome for wireless syncing and better rendering of iphone apps. If they offered these I could unjailbreak my ipad.

I know that, and you know that, but whether Apple knows that or believes it will be good enough remain to be seen.
 
I'm pining for a printing solution as well. The printing apps are far too difficult to use especially if you want to print directly from the iPad. You have to import into the app in various ways before printing and then it's in the apps format. Not very nice. It would be nice to print directly from mail and especially from Pages or Numbers.

On a side note, the ability to export to Quicktime on Keynote would be nice on the iPad.

Besides printing, I can think of very little that won't be covered in iOS4. Connecting and streaming from an iTunes library on another device would be nice. I don't think it can do that now directly. I'd like to stream an iTunes movie or music from my desktop rather than wired sync. I know there are app solutions but ugh. Shouldn't that be native?
 
Facetime would be cool. When they announced iOS4, they said it would be coming to the iPad this fall. That made me think that they might update the iPad hardware along with the iPods from now on. So maybe this fall they will add a camera in time for iOS 4?
 
I have had concerns about not getting multi-tasking before as I have never seen them say it will be coming to the iPad and in fact the disclaimer with the announcement on their site said not all devices will get all the features.
Personally I only really ever want/need messenger on in the background... which is already possible so I am not to concerned.
I am however looking forward to folders! No more pages and pages of apps! It will be good to have a single homescreen with folders such as "Games" "Productivity" and "Useless Boring Settings and Stuff"

they're ramping up production, now. I doubt there is any chance of a hardware update.

Good question. With the delay, I think they will surprise us by diverting further from the phone.

I'm in a similar boat...I really just want to be able to run audio apps like Slacker and Pandora in the background, as well as MLB without having to settle for the fake-out-Safari-stream solution they use now.
 
Probably all the features in 4 for the iPhone/touch, but I think the idea of popover folders is probably true.

This, for me at least, would be magnificent and my number 1 addition I would like!

They are really going to have to do something in this area or this device will miss badly.

I'm a PC all my life and grew up down the street from Apple. I really cannot think of one Apple device prior that i like or recommend. iPhones and iPads are the first devices of theirs I've ever purchased.

That said, there is no other UI I want on my mobile devices then this. I don't need the complexity of an Andriod or Windows os for these devices, it is counter productive to me.

But without a unified document folder, I'm going to be toast in a year once those devices get rolling. That one simple feature alone opens up the world to development and devs can start focusing on doing one task great, instead of needing to do all tasks 'ok' because there is no file sharing for another app to fill the gaps.
 
I want:
- Multitasking
- Dashboard (happens the same time you boot up multitasking, utilising the rest of the screen. There must be a reason why apple left out some of these key apps...?)
- Printing
- Better way to share files between mac and iPad
- support for retina apps

Next January:
- 512mb of ram
- front facing camera

at the very least they need to allow developers to send to other applications for saves. such as Pages should be allowed to save to my Dropbox application (were the Dropbox devs willing to implement this on their end, etc)

the only other big improvement i'd like to see for iOS (mainly on iPad though) is a services menu of sorts like OS X. it makes the most sense, this explains it the best:

Tabs in safari (don't give me that RAM prob crap as third party apps do it fine)

Customize safari toolbar

Printing

Wireless access of docs folder
 
I don't know that there's any point in drawing up wishlists for things that don't already exist in iOS4 (i.e. printing & unified doc folder).
 
you guys gotta remember that iOS multitasking doesnt really require al lthat much ram, apps aren't kept running in the background they're just closed in a saved state and then reopened :3, plenty of ram on the ipad to multitask
