What a wonderful quote, agreed. I spotted it earlier in the week, and smiled grimly.
Meanwhile, some cheerful nineteenth century classical music is on my listening list this afternoon; thus, I am listening to the "Donna Diana Overture" by Emil von Reznicek.

First Pink Floyd I've listened to in decades outside of the Nile Song anyway... forgot how much fun their pop psychedelic stuff was.
Great choice; there are days when nothing but Pink Floyd will do. And agreed - a lot of their pop psychedelic stuff was great fun, a kind of complex joyful music, which is not a combination that you encounter all that often.
Schubert String Quartets for me tonight, D810 Death and the Maiden; D804 Rosamunde. I have the ABQ performances (the mid-80s studio ones). I like them because I’m used to them, some prefer the live retakes from the 90s as a little more mellow. It's true these have some ferocious moments. Fine by me, maybe they'll call back the sun to an early winter solstice!
I am happy circling this album these days. It's fun and as you say, complex joyful music.
Some Chopin scherzos this morning... Vladimir Ashkenazy. The coffee didn't quite do the job earlier so this choice is finishing the task in expert fashion.
It's Friday.
Going on vacation for a week.

I hope you like minimalist music! I love listening to this stuff while I work...
As you know, I like Philip Glass (a lot) and John Adams (I have some of his work); what of Steve Reich's oeuvre would you recommend - I actually don't have any of his music, and think that some of this would appeal to me.
