Good old Heine! Think I "ate" them all when I was ~17yo ... and when my granny passed away last year still took her Heine compendium with me.

I was a huge Thomas Mann fan when younger but I'd rather read Golo or Heinrich's books nowadays. But have to admit that I never read the Buddenbrooks! Good reminder actually - need a book for this years holidays..

I loved The Buddenbrooks - it is a proper family saga, with solid social and cultural history setting the context. Personally, I would recommend it, and my sister-in-law thought it brilliant as well.

Somehow I came across / dug up the old Star Wars radio dramas from the 80s and am having a blast! :D Really well done (cast+sfx) and lots of additional content further fleshing out the story.

For some reason, your post reminded me of the Star Wars disco songs from Meco released in the late 1970s:

Meco - Star Wars Medley (7" Radio Edit)
Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band

Meco - Star Wars Medley (12" Version)
Title Theme/Imperial Attack/The Desert And The Robot Auction/The Princess Appears/The Land Of The Sand People/Princess Leia's Theme/Cantina Band/The Last Battle/The Throne Room And End Title

Several CDs arrived in the post today; one package contained five CDs, a selection of progressive psychedelic Scandi rock (mostly Savage Rose) and a single CD of zarzuelas sent by a very good friend from Nordic regions.

Meanwhile, the other package contained Baroque music, mainly by Claudio Monteverdi. I have been trying to obtain a copy of his piece "Laetatus Sum" for some time.

"Buy Mode 1" – Muzak composed by Jerry Martin and Marc Russo for The Sims Soundtrack.

So very nostalgic.

EDIT: For some reason, the end of "Buy Mode 1" always reminded me of Petula Clark's "Don't Sleep In The Subway," (particularly the Don't sleep in the subway, darlin', Don't stand in the pouring rain part) so I tried combining them:

I… think it sort of works, actually.

A double CD (yes, I still order them) recorded by Deutsche Grammophon, entitled "The Beauty of Monteverdi".

After three days of politics - watching it, thinking about it, reading it, it is high time to seek refuge in something approximating to culture and music.

Listening to a compilation of what he called "Slightly spacey" sixties stuff that a friend put together for me.

The track I am currently listening to is "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane.

Just in time for. A melancholy night, my SACD of Sinatra's NO ONE CARES arrived today and is queued to spin now.

This is my favorite song on this album. He recorded it decades earlier and comparison reveals how technique and life experience can enrich interpretation.

I'm not a huge Sinatra fan (nor is this school of music a natural fit for me) but sometimes things just come together in the right way and at the right time.
