The eccentric actor, singer, and existential cowboy Harry Dean Stanton just passed away at 91. I'm listening to this playlist of songs he sang during the course of filming Partly Fiction, a documentary about him four years ago. This is pulled from there, I believe:

You can hear all the songs he sang in that film here (same as link above). My favorites would be "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain," and "Hands on the Wheel." My own first memory of him is this (at 1:45):

I can't like this post enough

Thanks. I do love those quotes.

The documentary is well worth seeing; plaintive, dryly funny, and... kind'a sad. In the meantime, I found this hourlong PBS mini-documentary about him as well (can't be embedded). Some of the footage is from Partly Fiction, some looks like outtakes from it. I particularly love Wim Wenders' birthday video at the beginning and his casual singing with Michelle Phillips. For those who don't know, Wenders is the German director who crafted Stanton's most iconic (and first leading?) role in the incredible Paris, Texas.

I also discovered that this month he has a new movie (as the lead!).

Oh, I love her stuff; it's brilliant, isn't it?

And yes, dark, brooding, undertones, agreed.
Really? I was under the impression you weren't a fan or hadn't heard of her. I swear I posted about her before a couple years ago. Yes, agreed. Very, very good singer and pianist. Often sends chills down my spine.

Had to go with the Talking Heads. Today is the 40th anniversary of the release of their debut album, "Talking Heads:77". That underrated LP gave us Psycho Killer and it still holds up today, even though the most played version is from "Stop Making Sense".

Whatever gave you that idea?

I am pretty certain that I have posted about her before, too.

Anyway, I have both of her albums on my iPod, and on my computer's music library.

New Foo Fighters album. Better than Sonic Highways. Better than One by One. Trails Wasting Light for me. Although the title track "Concrete and Gold" really made me appreciate what Dave Grohl can do when he writes homages to other acts. It's a cool sounding Pink Floyd type song. The rest is good not great. "Run" and "Sky is a Neighborhood" are catchy and traditional Foo Fighters. The production from Greg Kurstin really makes everything bigger, louder, and heavier. Overall, a worthy album but not the best and lacking a signature song like One by One's "All My Life" and Wasting Light's "Walk"

Fifty million pounds? That's more money than twenty million pounds and twenty-five million pounds put together!

Caught a cold from somewhere and felt the need for the vocal stylings of Peter Cetera and the guys from Chicago.
