Exactly why I keep my Apple Music sub going. Can download a bunch of performances and take my time figuring out which one I want to live with, then go for a CD and rip it lossless, ditch the stuff I downloaded. No more guesswork based on 90-second track previews.

Some Joan Armatrading for me now. This is a live-in-studio take on her song Down to Zero. She used to open a lot of her 1970s concerts with it.

Great tune.
Her greatest hits LP is one of my fave collections.

Tremendous respect between Batiashvili and Barenboim on this CD.

I've listened to the great Lost Highway -soundtrack a couple of times today. One of my favorite soundtracks, just like the film, as well. But there's one glaring omission when it comes to the soundtrack. Namely perhaps the best song heard in the film isn't featured on the album for some reason. The song is originally by Tim Buckley, but prefer I prefer this version.

In June 1876, Serbia and the Ottoman Empire were engaged in the Serbo-Turkish War (1876–78). Russia openly supported Serbia. The Russian Musical Society commissioned an orchestral piece from Tchaikovsky for a concert in aid of the Red Cross Society, and ultimately for the benefit of wounded Serbian veterans.[1][2] Many Russians sympathized with their fellow Slavs and Orthodox Christians and sent volunteer soldiers and aid to assist Serbia.

Tchaikovsky referred to the piece as his "Serbo-Russian March" while writing it. It was premiered in Moscow on November 17 [O.S. November 5] 1876, conducted by Nikolai Rubinstein.

The march is highly programmatic in its form and organization. The first section describes the oppression of the Serbs by the Turks. It uses two Serbian folk songs, "Sunce jarko, ne sijaš jednako" (Bright sun, you do not shine equally),[3] by Isidor Ćirić and "Rado ide Srbin u vojnike" (Gladly does the Serb become a soldier),[4] by Josip Runjanin - giving way to the second section in the relative major key, which describes the Russians rallying to help the Serbs. This is based on a simple melody with the character of a rustic dance which is passed around the orchestra until finally it gives way to a solemn statement of the Russian national anthem "God Save the Tsar". The third section of the piece is a repeat of Tchaikovsky's furious orchestral climax, reiterating the Serbian cry for help. The final section describes the Russian volunteers marching to assist the Serbs. It uses a Russian tune, this time in the tonic major key and includes another blazing rendition of "God Save the Tsar" prophesying the triumph of the Slavonic people over tyranny. The overture finishes with a virtuoso coda for the full orchestra.

The piece is frequently paired in performance with Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," which also quotes "God Save the Tsar."

Yeah, this is an amazing [cover] song, beautiful vocal by Elizabeth Fraser - love so much of the 4AD output from this era, including TMC.

Yay it actually ended up taking me a moment to find this thread, but super happy that I had, I really love sharing music. :p

Such a great song! I also very much like the acoustic versions they have done of their songs, that Mike Ness sure can write a tune. In addition to Social Distortion, the solo stuff of his is exceptional as well.

Aha that's silly I haven't really heard of any of his solo work (though I have added some and will listen later, thank you for that). I do not really recall how/when I found Social Distortion but I do really love that band. Though I think I just got lucky and nothing else I listen to will be as popular. Happy I was able to share a nice song though.

Both of the solo records are really great, but Cheating at Solitaire will always be my favorite of the two. Perhaps a bit more "modern Social Distortion-esque", while Under the Influences has more of a 50's Rock n Roll -vibe and twang to it, if that makes sense. You can't really go wrong with either of them.

And who would've known that ABBA would record music together again.
But they have, 2 brand new songs that their Avatars will perform on their tour :D

If they are as good as ABBA used to be, I'll purchase the CDs for my mother who adores ABBA.
They would never release anything bad 35 yrs after they split the group. They are all still way too professional to do that. They had amazing moments in the studio when they did it I heard. But it's only 2 songs.
I Still Have Faith In You & Don't Shut Me Down. They will SELL!

Actually, I was thinking of my mother who has advanced Alzheimers: She adores ABBA; when I am home (and when I am not at home) ABBA is sort of playing on a continuous loop - hey, if it makes Mother happy (and it does) I am cool with it.

All I was to know is whether these new releases meet the standards of yore: If they do, I shall happily purchase the album. Call me old-fashioned: I shall buy the CD.
