Neil Young - Harvest Moon

Been awhile since I listened to some Neil Young. This tune fits the cool n crisp weather of fall/autumn. TGIF.

Once upon a time I used to listen to Deftones a lot more, but nowadays not so much. White Pony was a great album, but after that I somehow lost interest. Fast forward to now, and I've been listening to Diamond Eyes quite a bit. Not a bad album, I must say. Needs a few more spins, but it's promising. The genre (and especially other bands with which Deftones often got compared) was never really my cup of tea, but then again these guys always had a distinctive sound which is why it caught my interest in the first place. Great song, and a great video as well.

The Delfonics: "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)".

Tarantino's Jackie Brown was just on the TV here a few days ago, and The Delfonics are played in the film a few times. Always thought they sounded pretty good, but never got to buying any records of theirs. Do you perhaps have a suggestion as to what would be a good record to start with?

Actually, that very track is the track that was played in Jackie Brown (my favourite Tarantino film by far), you see Jackie Brown playing it on vinyl, and later, Max plays it on a cassette in his car (a nice touch), and it is also how I came across the Delfonics.

The version I have comes from the soundtrack of Jackie Brown (I have the CD).

Somewhere, I have a five CD set of Motown music, but fear I may have mislaid or misplaced it when moving house/flat.

Yep, I remembered the name of the track from the film. Another band I need to research a little further!

A few years (or more, who's counting at this point) ago there was a little bit of a trend of these guys who were involved in the punk scene doing this acoustic singer songwriter stuff. And doing it well. Greg Graffin from Bad Religion comes to mind, and then there's Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music.

A friend introduced me to his music some years ago, and having just received some unpleasant news about said friend I had to put Chuck's record on. The fact that the second video in this post is in my opinion one of the more adorable things on Youtube is just a bonus.

In heavy rotation this past week:

Twenty One Pilots ~ Trench
Phantogram ~ Eyelid Movies
Arctic Monkeys ~ Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino

The Carrie Nations - In The Long Run
From the soundtrack of Beyond the Valley of the Dolls(1970)
