It still doesn't show as an embed on my login despite it having been edited presumably by a mod.

is that normal?

Sorry, I don't follow. It looks embedded to me, although I think SBG did that for you.

if SBG did it for you, you could go back and edit your post. It should show you what changes were made around the youtube tag. Once you see that, you should be good to go for the next time you want to embed a clip.

It is certainly not their best work, but it's also not terrible.

A few from the ageless and still brilliant David Bowie: "The Man Who Sold The World", "Rebel, Rebel", "Heroes", "Modern Love", "Ashes To Ashes", and "Slow Burn", and, two rather good tracks from his most recent album, "Love Is Lost", and "You Feel So Lonely You Could Die".

A few from John Barry (Sixties classical instrumentals) to bridge the Old Year and welcome in the New Year.

These include: "The Persuaders Theme", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", "Midnight Cowboy", "Space March" ("Capsule In Space' from 'You Only Live Twice'), and "You Only Live Twice".

I was thinking the same thing. BTW, we seem to have similar musical taste in many ways. I'm not a fan of current music. I guess it's the age thing, at least with me.

----------

Right now I'm listening to Steely Dan's Gaucho. I love this band :)

Image

Steely Dan is basically jazz influenced progressive rock band that formed in 1972 made up by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker coupled with famous studio musicians. They still make music today, but their last good recording IMO was made in 1980, and that was Gaucho. Donald made some excellent solo recordings as well. Walter's solo recordings are OK, but not great

BTW, I hate Rap, but I do like some Heavy Metal.. I'm a big fan of 1960's Motown.

Well, Mr. McMac, thanks to Amazon (and personally, I'd prefer to be able to carry out this sort of transaction in a bricks-and-mortar store), the postman delivered a small, sealed package on Friday which contained an album called 'Gaucho' by a group called Steely Dan. I believe that you may have recommended this to me a few weeks ago. Anyway, my most grateful thanks for your recommendation, and - you will doubtless be pleased to learn that it is playing now on my iTunes as I write, lovely, smooth, easy, elegant, cool music…….

You'll love their album Aja. It was noted as one of the best albums made. They made it a point to bring in the best studio musicians, and the results speak for themselves. Michael McDonald (solo artist, Doobie Brothers) and Timothy B. Schmit (Eagles) appear on this album.

Peg is the biggest single on the album, but Josie, and Rikki Don't Lose My Number are the biggest radio favourites out there. Besides, not many bands can take a near 20-year break, don't even talk to each other, get back together, release an album, and have that album take home 4 Grammys.

I keep Aja in my collection, and definitely well worth it.

BL.

Okay, bradl. The night I ordered 'Gaucho' (and thank you again, Mr. McMac), following your welcome post and strong recommendation, I also placed an order for 'Aja'. Before composing this post, I tracked back through my emails to make sure that I had, in fact, actually ordered it. My own records show that I had indeed placed an order for 'Aja' in the very same order sequence that included 'Gaucho' and the confirmation email merely conforms this. While the email suggested a delivery date for both of January 2, only 'Gaucho' had arrived by then. Nevertheless, I am sure it is on its way….and shall let you know when it arrives and I get to play it (finally). Anyway, I am looking forward to receiving it….

Yes I recommended it to you! I'm thrilled that you like it. If you didn't, I'd gladly send you the money you paid.....Well, maybe not lol! Seriously, I'm happy you like the the CD. BTW I saw them twice. Once in the early 70's at Westbury Music Fair, and again in 1993 at Jones Beach Theater. Both on Long Island, New York.

Ah, Serge Gainsbourg, the epitome of Sixties 'cool'; it is almost a cliché of what French culture was supposed to represent in avant-garde circles…….

And some really great songs, too. Thanks for reminding me to listen to this…..

Well, again, my grateful thanks to you for taking the time and trouble to recommend them - I am indeed enjoying listing to them. Much appreciated.

I'd imagine being able to see them play live was a terrific experience.

That is a very nice souvenir to have! What was the concert like?

As with writers whose work I admire, or respect, I love being able to see musicians or composers whose work I like, respect, admire, play live.

All I can say I was in heaven when I saw them live. Donald Fagan and Walter Becker are perfectionists when it came to the musicians they played with. Steely Dan were Donald and Walter. The rest of the band were the absolute best studio musicians out there. You should check out their other albums made before 1980.I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

BTW, here's a tune from their very first album "Can't Buy A Thrill" (1972)

That is sooo cool :D!

Maybe some time they'll have a performance around Chicago. I love a few of their albums, and they definitely produce a lot of variety. What they do now is a lot different. I recently got Morph the Cat and i was surprised

I'm listening to Art Tatum on YouTube because I don't currently have a woroking iPod :'(. And I just got a nice Vivaldi album I wanted to listen to as well!

Sting - If I Ever Lose My Faith In You ( mostly live) This song reminds me of a special lady in my life 20 years ago. I get teary eyed when I hear it.

YouTube: video

I really like that one, and well, Sting all around. My favorite Sting song is Desert Rose.

Interesting song. I've always been a fan of Sting especially his early days with The Police. I saw them at a small club on Long Island called My Father's Place before they were a major act back in 1979.

This was the show I was at

Great Video! I love Jazz. Mostly older stuff like this. BTW, I'm not a fan of Steely Dan's later albums like Morph The Cat and Everything Must Go. Their last decent album was Two Against Nature. From 1972 to 1980 were by far their best albums

At different times, and in different countries, I have had the privilege of seeing (and hearing) Mavis Staples, Marcus Miller (a protégé of Miles Davis), and Kool and the Gang play live.

Having said that, it never occurred to me (and would never have occurred to me) to retain the tickets as souvenirs….
