had to have a root canal today, ugh, lol. I listened to:
I wasn't offered a music choice, just the Muzak channel over the dentist's PA.

I was at the endodontist recently. The practice I went to offered movies to watch (huge selection via a streaming service!) on a monitor over the chair. The other interesting thing was a computer aided 3-D imaging system that made the procedure seem like a cool video game run by a robot. The downside to all that, however, is the endodontist is out-of-network for me, ugh.

Some of you may recall Gerry Rafferty, who wrote a timeless classic, the song "Baker Street", in the very late 1970s.

Baker Street was regarded (rightly) as an instant classic, and received much airtime on radio, and as a frequently requested song on shows that invited requests from listeners.

So, for now, I am listening to two tracks from Gerry Rafferty - the (rightly) famous (and wonderful) Baker Street, and the somewhat less well known, but equally enjoyed, (by me), Right Down The Line.

Two of my favorite songs. First time I heard Baker Street, I was in the kitchen flipping pizzas at a part time job in my senior year of high school. Thankfully we had a radio tuned to WAAL 99.1 the local Rock station always playing.

Started transcribing this arrangement on piano today. Somehow, so far I've managed to get ALL the super subtle harmonic "slippages" (I stole that word from my professor—he may have coined it in this context cause I've never heard anyone else use it. Refers to subtle shifts in inner harmony.)

My root canal was 2.5 hours, and I wasn't offered a music choice, just the Muzak channel over the dentist's PA. But, there was a malfunction somewhere and it kept playing the same song, over and over, sometimes skipping to random parts of the song: I only have eyes for you. A slow, romantic song but kinda creepy sounding at the same time. Worst 2.5 hours of my life; even the hygienists were going, "Doesn't this song ever end?!?"

That was ten years ago or so; to this day I cannot listen to that song.
I brought my airpods with me and asked if it would bother them. they said, "No.".

I also had a cavity filled so mine took about 3 hours. But they numbed me up so much it wasn't too painful.

I also had a choice of watching "netflix" ... The music calmed me.

The only two songs I know by him and I also really like them.

Good luck with your root canal treatment, and also, good luck with your recovery from this root canal treatment.

And Bach - even in a dentist's chair - simply rocks; there is nowhere that I cannot listen to, appreciate and enjoy the music of Bach.

Picked up the Collected double album two months ago on an impulse. I was looking for a couple other albums and came across it and put it in my cart. Hadn't listened to his music in years. Nice pressing on 180 gram vinyl, sounds great.

Something a little different this morning. Don't know what to call it. Modern Retro Swing maybe? I like it.

If ya dig the 90's revival of jump blues/swing/big band, hep cats are also down with:

(80's revival!)

(one of the originals!)

(primordial influence + source material for Ten Years After!)

(and for those of us here who listen to classical, even Shostakovich got in on the action...)

;-)

----------
ETA: BBVD fans need to check out the movie Swingers. I lived in the part of LA the film is set in and the scene truly was like that. All the locations and bands were the real thing.

Thank you for sharing those! I do enjoy the big band swing era but I also like the more recent retro entries.😎
