Bach’s Cello Suites (Janos Starker). This choice was made to clear my head from reverberations left over from celebrating the solstice with Nada Surf tunes at 4:48 this morning. :) It's working but I'll not get all the way through Mr. Starker's work tonight. It's already past my bedtime!

"I Love You For Psychological Reasons," which is They Might Be Giants' penultimate 2015 Dial-A-Song release. This song contains so many internal rhymes. I'm really going to miss these.

Peter Grimes?

Yeah, good opera.

I listened to Pink Sunshine by Fuzzbox recently. Takes me to the summer of 1989. Happy days.

Nah, this singer:

In a way the sassy lyrics of some of Grimes' Art Angels tracks remind me of Spoon back when they were having such a hassle with a label at the time. For instance, in the album Series of Sneaks, the track Lafitte Don't Fail Me Now asks -- "are you ever honest with anyone??"

In Art Angels, some of Claire Boucher's lyrics are similarly provocative, so I'm more than ever a fan of Grimes!

I'll have to check out Spoon. Grimes reminds me of Chvrches, actually, who are also great.

all right, there is a goth song, i think it is goth, that was a big hit several years ago. IIRC the video was in black in white or a blue light. a band with a girl singer, she had very pretty blue eyes and black hair. slow build type of song. at one point she is lying on her back singing... she wore a big dress or gown in the video. some graveyard shots i think. some shots filmed around a fountain maybe. he he he... help!!

oh, she had a really powerful voice. the back story on the band was that they were supposedly a "christian rock" band when they started out.

:) anyone?

;)

No, nothing, I'm afraid.

Very little to go on, there. A bit more detail would be welcome.

Personally, I rarely remember whether someone who sings - male or female - is good looking or not, unless they have been blessed with extraordinary good looks. Above all, when a pice of music is the topic, I tend to remember the tune, the topic covered by the tune and lyrics (was it politics or romance, for example), lyrics, melody, composer, musical influences, and so on.

The appearance of the singer is something I hardly notice. Christian rock is not a part of the record shop I would have been rummaging in, even as a teenager.

Sounds like Evanescence to me. I vaguely remember seeing a banner promo like that on iTunes but it was quite awhile ago. Maybe something from their Fallen album? As time went on they ended up actually asking record stores not to label them as a Christian rock band since they were trying to move away from the category, although in early work they were so listed, I think.

Update: on second thought it sounds like Lithium from their The Open Door album..

For me it’s certainly the season to dust off Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols. I recommend the remastered version of the 1972-74 recordings of that and several other Britten works, performed by the choir of King’s College Cambridge, with Sir David Willcocks and Sir Phillip Ledger.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/britten-ceremony-carols-etc/id695763686

That was originally an EMI recording, now out under Warner Classics. It must still remain the benchmark for Ceremony of Carols, particularly the three tracks That Yonge Child, Balulalow and This Little Babe.

Wishing everyone who celebrates Christmas a happy one, and anyway a festive start to winter!

I'm a bit rusty with the language, but he sounded good kudos!

Yeah I was looking for a good translation to post with it, but couldn't find one. I'm not satisfied with Google Translate's version. It's a shame because the lyrics are really good.

In a coffee shop.
A few on the classical music radio station this morning while I was preparing coffee included 'Clair de Lune', (by Debussy), 'Intermezzo' (from the Hary Janos Suite by Kodaly), and the Hungarian Dance No 1 by Brahms, which used to be one of my mother's favourites; she even had it on a very old LP which I remember was played quite a bit when I was a child.

Lovely listening, all.
