Recently finished reading The Hobbit for the first time in probably 6 or 7 years and decided it was a perfect time to do my annual reading of The Lord of the Rings...

Since I recieved my Kindle I can't stop reading! When I've got time to sit I bury my face in my Kindle and when I'm driving I have my Kindle read to me.

The last books I read (in reverse order) were:

Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky (or however it's spelled )

Xenocide by Orson Scott Card. The third book in the Ender branch of the Ender's Game series. I was kinda disappointed by it over all. Ender's Game was really special and Speaker for the Dead was amazing, original, and very entertaining, Xenocide just didn't live up to its predecessors.

Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey by Chuck Palahniuk My favorite book by Palahniuk.

I'm starting Infinite Jest by David Wallace. I haven't heard much about it. If anyone else on this forum has read this book I would love to hear your opinion about it.

ok so i read a book from the iBook Store that i felt might be entertaining but ~sigh~ it was disturbing and poorly written.

The book: Robopocolapse -i know, i know- was good from a conceptual point of view, but went waaay to far in describing the gory details of robot attacks at the expense of developing the characters under assault.

Gosh from having rerereread the LotR trilogy i am so spoiled. You can just open any of J.R.R.'s books to some random page and feast upon the delicate descriptions of the setting, narrative or internal conflicts of his masterfully developed characters. So different from the cheap page turners that are so ubiquitous these days...

What's it bout?

this quote from the Wikipedia intro is well said:

" Wide in scope, elaborate in its imagery, and meticulous in its detail, the novel covers themes such as God, sex, love, gender and death."

I could also add black magic, dark rituals, really bizarre sexual encounters, a God-city made of flesh, parallel worlds, and a transgender, chameleon-like alien assassin

In a coffee shop.
I'm re-reading the Harry Potter books.

Truly, I envy you; someday, I promise myself I shall sit down and re-read them all, slowly, savouring the full sequence, when I have a week or so in bed. While I have read all of them, - when they came out - I have only re-read the first and the last of them.

Cheers

I've been really enjoying it. :) I used to read a lot and then I kinda stopped for some reason. Re-reading Harry Potter has made me remember how much I used to enjoy it.
