Currently I am reading The Booth Thief. It is excellent book. I havee still got 80 pages to go, but I don't want it to end. The story is nice, heartfelt, and just lovely. I am so glad my friend told me to read it.

I've read this book(don't remember if i posted it in the thread). I didn't find the story that interesting, but the writing is some of the best I've ever read.

How can you keep track of the plots in so many books at once? I've got "Spider Bones" by Kathy Reichs in my TBR stack, will probably read it when I'm done with "The Cat Who Went into the Closet" by Lilian Jackson Braun as I'm a one book at a time kind of guy.

Ever since Junior High I've been assigned to read at 2 books at once, plus with the books I read for fun on the side I guess I'm used to it

Boeing 747-400 FCOM, windshear escape, upset recovery sections.

Only for simulator use though, but I love my simulators. I never would have been able to do that in real life, so this is close enough. Tragic isn't it? ;)

Looking for a good Biology Pop Science book. I've already read all of Dawkins' stuff, and a few other famous books. Any recommendations?

I'll recommend two for you. Though they are not technically "biology pop science" books, they both tell a cracking good tale, well argued and well-written, with fairly solid biological knowledge; actually, they inhabit that wonderful cross over (which I love) where history meets science and (sometimes) economics.

They are firstly, "Tulipmania" by Mike Dash. Basically, he gives the history of the tulip (which is extraordinarily interesting), and tries to offer explanations as to how and why that flower came to be the expression of conspicuous consumption and speculative fantasy in the Dutch Republic in the 1630s.

The other is Mark Kurlansky's wonderful history of cod, yes, the fish, called "Cod" which also takes a look at the Basques as well. Well worth a read, and both are very well written.

"Between the Hedges"
Struggling to read "Wicked" based on all the hype about the book/play
I'm over 1/3 the way through and honestly don't want to finish it
I hope it gets better :(

Believe it or not, it does. I felt the same way (as did a number of people I spoke to). The first half of the book has to be choked down. I have read a number of books by Gregory Maguire and they are all the same. I like his stories, just not his writing style.

Just finished re-reading Insanely Great by Steven Levy and I'm now into iWoz to get the other part of the story. Learning the history of this technology I use every day keeps me from becoming a jaded user.

Thanks for the insight and encouragement
I will likely press forward... I hate to quit

Currently reading Those Guys Have All the Fun, the narrative history of ESPN, written by the folks who wrote "Live From New York", which is essentially the same format but about the history of Saturday Night Live.

I'm honestly struggling through it, which surprised me because I read Live From New York in about three or four days. As far as I can tell the signficant difference is that "Live" focused a lot more on the actors and writers than the producers, while "Guys" is much more management and production heavy. But I will persevere and get through it. :)

Just finished Survivors by Terry Nation, easy quick read about the end of civilisation through a flu like plague.
Getting on a bit (1976) but so am I.
I can remember the original TV series when I was a kid back in the UK.

Just about to start People Next Door by Christopher Ransom.

Air France Concorde Checklistes Normales, 20 MAR 03, Avant mise en route. I painstakingly converted some of the Air France Concorde manuals into PDFs for my own private use - word by word. It took a really long time, but was worth it. I much prefer the Air France manuals, they were very nicely done in the first place, especially the bits explaining the takeoff procedures for certain airports.

I'm about to fire up Flight Simulator X and head off using F-BTSD, an Air France Concorde so I've got the checklists out for the real plane and I'm going through them. I'm heading out of Denpasar and down to Sydney - I'm hoping to get some nice weather conditions.

The last time I went around that region I had ISA -21, some -78°C at 48,500ft!

Now I return you from Concorde jargon back to your normal programming. ;)

It is a brief history of Mormonism and some murders committed by fundamentalist LDS members. Got it from my local library last week when Amazon finally worked out getting books from the library.

Reading Night by Elie Wiesel for English class. Gives great insight on what it was like to live through and eventually survive a concentration camp during WWII.
