Let me know if you like it. I loved his Moneyball and the Big Short

Both are great books, Big Short was done well as a movie to help non-financial people understand it but Moneyball was not true to the book in the movie.

This book, 1/4 done so far, is somewhat of an offshoot of the Big Short but good so far. I don't recommend the Undoing Project, it felt like a really long and tidious version of Moneyball ideas with some new stuff.

Shaun Walker - "The Long Hangover: Putin's New Russia and the Ghosts of the Past."

This book is really excellent, elegantly written, simpatico, nuanced, balanced, fair-minded, intelligent and also impressively well-researched. Even that this whole region (and its history and politics) was my speciality when I was an academic, I'm fairly well-versed in it, and thus, quite critical of some of the work that is published on this - and related - topics.

I'm half way through it - having commenced it yesterday - and recommend it unreservedly.

I rather fancy reading this myself. Thanks for the recommendation.

I like the fact that it is (not just beautifully written and very well researched, and decent) but is balanced and recognises the need for background knowledge, while also showing an awareness of context, and of how complex nuances and contradictory motivations colour and drive actors.

I strongly recommend it, and that is as someone who has studied, taught, & researched this stuff, and have also worked in a good number of some of these countries.

Just started book III in the Harry Bosch series.

Agreed! That is actually why I started reading the books. The character who plays Harry, pretty much nails him as does his partner. They did a great job in casting these two. There are differences from the book series and show though.

I had a look for these books. I love the TV series. I was under the impression that each TV series was made up of 3 books, and not in chronological order? Which books in order are you reading?

I am reading them in book order and yes so far the first three books make up the series and seasons. They are taking little bits of pieces from each and interchanging them throughout the TV show.

The TV series is what got me on the books. I like them and as I mentioned before the character that plays Bosch, is pretty darn spot on. Now I can hear and see him from the show, but the mannerisms and character himself are right off the pages.

Still with Shaun Walker, and have just this afternoon ordered "Talk Of The Devil: Encounters With Seven Dictators" by Riccardo Orizio and Avril Bardoni, which was strongly recommended by a good friend.

I bought the Shaun Walker book this morning. Read the opening chapter and enjoyed it. I also like the look of the "Talk of the Devil" book. After reading the Attle book "Citizen Clem" by John Bew at around 600 pages it's refreshing (to me) to read shorter books. I see the Walker book is 250ish pages and the "Devil" book similar. Will also be ordering.

Ah, excellent: Delighted that you are enjoying it.

I love it when something I recommend goes down well.
