Started number 10! The last book was really good. For those who watch the series, there are items from book 9 that are in the show. So it looks like they are really going deep into the catalog. I just started 10 so I can't tell if there is anything in the show from this one yet.

Finally broke down and bought book 4 of Kevin Anderson's "Saga of Seven Suns" series, "Scattered Suns". It's starting off very good. He's a master at crafting an engaging story and characters. Only 3 more books in this series to go. The suspense is killing me!

It's a really good SF series. I'm definitely an Anderson fan, (of this series and lots of his other works). I really liked the writing he did with Brian Herbert (son of Frank Herbert) on the expanded Dune series. He also did the book adaption of Rush's "Clockwork Angels" album. That was a really good book, (if you're a Rush fan) and it was very clear that he was also a fan, as well as a friend of Neil Peart's. It's very seldom that I've run across an author that I can say I've liked everything they've written! Anderson is one of them!

Well, that wasn't what I was expecting. If you want a snappy historical whodunit then this probably isn't the best choice as the murder mystery is almost an afterthought to Sansom's desire to tell the story of Kett's rebellion in Norwich. However, I found it fascinating - I didn't know much about the rebellions in 1549 but what an interesting and pretty much hidden bit of history. Well worth reading.

Well, sometimes, the best thrillers, - or, indeed historical whodunnits, use the structure of a murder mystery as a means to explore a particular society at a given time.

Finishing up my book on Reagan (President Reagan by Richard Reeves) and my book of criticism by Martin Amis, so I need something new to read. Since I've been reading more non-fiction lately, I'd like to go with fiction this time around. I've had Absalom, Absalom! on my to-read list for a while, so I may go with that. :)

am also a fan - read all the expanded Dune series - great stuff - have not read any of the Saga of Suns series - will check it out - thx

One of my favorites is "Assemblers of Infinity" (Kevin Anderson with Doug Beason) I just re-read it - enjoyed it just as much as the first time - I think it would make a great movie.

Charles Dickens - The Chimes. Not read this one before and having a change from my annual reading of A Christmas Carol.

Just finished re-reading Gene Kranz's "Failure Is Not An Option", a great book by one of the most celebrated flight directors for NASA (mainly Mercury to Apollo - esp. during Apollo XIII's near miss).

I recently watched the movie Sunset Boulevard (1950) and impressed me so much that I think this will be my next book:

Sunset Boulevard was absolutely brilliant - a close to flawless movie.

I have finished the Raj Quartet by Paul Scott - a re-read, as I had first read the books as an undergrad - and recommend them highly.

Most unusually, while I had always thought the four books extremely good, a re-read has made them even better - now, I think that they are excellent - (probably because I have experienced much, learned more, studied, travelled, and thought, in the intervening years).
