That's not why I use Firefox. I use firefox so all my PC's/devices can have a common bookmark repository that is synced accross devices, no matter what kind.
That’s not what the OP asked about though. Safari is known to be the most efficient, I find I odd someone is looking for an alternative when they want the most efficient browser.

I was having a problem with a motorcycle forum where I could not upload photos. have been a member for years and something changed in Dec. I was blaming the forum because I thought it was connected to my renewal. I logged into the site on my windows laptop (which I rarely use) and had no problem. I installed Opera on the iMac and that worked. Have yet to find out what the problem was. I have used Opera on the Windows laptop before I got the iMac.

Safari, can’t understand why anyone would use something else.
Why anyone would use Chrome by free will is the most perplexing thing to me and has been since it launched.

When not on Mac I have used Firefox since it was called Firebird, and in the odd case a site does not work in Safari when on mac I use Firefox as a backup browser.

I've been using Microsoft Edge since beta and it's incredibly fast and light.

As I'm an Android Mobile user, Edge is useful switching from platforms. You can keep all your stuff even in Android, iOS, Windows and Mac devices. Including open tabs in other devices.

Edge. Usually Canary.

Safari, can’t understand why anyone would use something else.

Plenty of websites and web services that don't support Safari very well and are designed from chromium browsers. Windows doesn't support Safari, so you're SOL if you use multi-platforms and want your tabs and such to transfer over.

Edge is also faster/lighter on resources. Frankly I don't know why anyone would use Safari. It looks nice, but thats about it.

I use Safari on everything I can (MacBook, iPad, iPhone). No other browser looks as nice or is as lightweight. Plus, I love the animations that only seem to be in Safari.

I have Firefox installed, since I use Firefox on my desktop, but I've only opened it on my Mac maybe 2 or 3 times.

I'll go a step further than that and say that I will never understand why public school districts are willing to sell their souls and private information to Google in exchange for cheap-o Chromebooks. Yes, I know Google claims that they don't collect sensitive information in those environments, but I 100% do not believe them. It seems like every time they claim something like that, we find out 2 years later that they were not telling the whole truth, or left key details out to make it sound like they weren't spying. For example, I think Google's fine print STILL says that they are allowed to use your personal files from Google Drive for literally any purpose they want. They own that content, not you.

I realize that schools are often strapped for funding, and Chromebooks are the most logical place you go when you don't have the money to give every kid a Mac or iPad, but I get more and more worried every year about the fact that these school districts are feeding the Google machine more and more data.

The bright side--both my kids hate their Chromebooks and would never use them if not required for school, so I guess it's not too much of a worry for me personally.

EDGE and Chrome. I know, I know...
But, Chrome syncs across multiple computers (including Windows).
That's actually the original reason I started on Chrome--my work computers used to always be Windows and I needed to sync my stuff across all platforms. Now that my work machines are always Macs, I still find myself wanting to keep work links in Chrome and personal links in Safari. This is more out of laziness than anything else. I should probably switch the Chrome part of my setup over to Edge or something.

I will admin, EDGE seems to be working well, even with the sync option.
However, I do not recall seeing an EDGE app or install, for Mac OS. Unless I missed something...

It was still in beta for Mac last time I checked--that might have changed by now.

I still use Safari for my general browsing, only tried Opera to solve one particular problem. I try and stay away from Google as much as possible. I had Nest thermostat installed before Google bought the company, now I get a message use Google every time I open the old Nest app, I will keep using the old app as long as it works.

I just compared the install size of several different web browsers on my M1 MBP, listed by size in the applications folder:

Safari (25.6MB - misleading because using WebKit and IDK the size of WebKit in Library, but you can't delete WebKit from macOS so...)

Opera (220.5MB - uses Chromium)

Firefox (374.4MB - uses their own rendering engine)

Vivaldi (499.7MB - uses Chromium)
Brave Browser (505.5MB - uses Chromium)
Microsoft Edge (655.4.5 - uses Chromium)
Google Chrome (907MB - uses Chromium)

In some sense, the only alternatives to Chromium are Firefox and Safari.

Brave - use it extensively. If you are privacy-focused it is the best choice. I've encountered no downside.
How is battery usage with Brave compared to Safari? I am looking for alternative to safari, using brave on my android and windows device but never tried it on my m1 mba.
