DXOMark scores are totally useless.

DXO scores are a huge marketing advantage. They get mentioned in many non-technical smartphone reviews. Most consumers don't want to spend an hour comparing photo samples. They look for a big number.

Does the average consumer even read smartphone reviews?

I know most of my acquaintances just get either the latest iPhone in the size (and price) they prefer or whatever phone is on discounted promo pricing by carrier. Even on Android, they stick to the same brand as their old phone which is most often Samsung. They don't really bother reading reviews.

Another vote for XR/11 main camera module, Apple are often quite generous when it comes to camera upgrades as they know they are a popular feature (and thus good selling point!)

Cutting $50 from the current iPhone 8 price won't suddenly make a single-lens, 4.7" smartphone significantly more competitive given the current landscape.
Cutting $50 after giving it current gen internals will.

I'm leaving the hype train if theres no wireless charging. Its a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned.

The other phones in the lineup are too big or too pricey, hard to justify $1000 for a phone. I might just end up with iPhone 8 lol.

Why? Because consumers in emerging markets suddenly won't care about large displays and triple-rear cameras?

This story has already been told in 2016. Did consumers around the world suddenly stop caring about large displays because the SE had current gen internals?

No wireless charging/glass back is more of deal MAKER for me.

Aluminium body > Glass body

Don't care for wireless charging, but I do care for a strong phone that doesn't break easily.

Wireless charging still is not main stream yet. It’s nothing more than an accessory for something to purchase separately for the ‘convenience factor’, that’s it. It’s nice to have next to your bedside or a table, and they’re relatively affordable, but I don’t think those who want this specific phone purchasing this next version of the SE would not take advantage of it because it doesn’t offer wireless charging. Consumers will invest in this phone because of the size and price point.

that's why they are useless.
They are money driven.

It’s not even about being ‘money driven’, consumers are _not_ paying attention to DXO scores. There’s no doubt, I could question 10 consumers if they know what DXO even is, and I guarantee you none of them probably would have an idea of what it means, where to look, etc.

Plus, all these cameras on a year-to-year basis are producing pretty comparative photos. It’s whatever the smart phone manufacture is promoting in terms of the new ‘hardware’ for the cameras that consumers will likely see versus a score they have no idea of what it means.

I know that we won't know until its announced, but I was thinking it might have an iphone 8 level camera.

I couldn't imagine them putting in one of the iphone 11 cameras while keeping the price down.

What do you guys think?
The original SE was a Surplus Edition phone because it had leftover parts from the 2 highest selling models (5s/6) There is no solid proof there will be a SE2. Dont count on this one guys.

Small correction: the SE had 5s body with 6s internals.

They’re only known to readers of photo sites and magazines which probably is rare amongst smartphone users.
no more.
Chinese manufacturers are start using those "benchmarks" to advertise products...
I don't trust them anymore, especially after seeing what they did with some Xiaomi products (clearly NOT so good as they stated).
