How you doing. Pardon me if there is a thread like this already. Anyhow I know some of you don't like the iMac G5/Intel. I honestly think it is one of the best iMac designs thus far, granted there is only what 3? Well 4 if you count slot load G3.

I would like to get some ideas of what the MR crowd thinks the design of the next iMac will be. Not specs, just design.

I am having troubling imagining what they could do with the current design being so simple.

Yeah, a chin reconstruction would be welcomed, especially on the 17''. I suppose they could make it even thinner and bring back the flat back so it can be wall mounted nicely. A 23'' version perhaps? I don't really know, but I'm sure they'll come up with something brilliant.

They need to make a "extreme" version, which would contain a Intel Extreme Edition Processor... and it needs to be 23 inches.

Also, they need to offer it in Black too....

If history tells us anything, wouldn't they completetly redesign and do something new, like from G4 to G5/Intel. I mean, they don't need to. But....

I don't really mind the "chin" it doesn't really take away from the design for me. That is just me though.

Anyhow, I would like to see a brand new design. The current iMac design will be 2 years old soon...

you could put them on the bottom that would be cool so you could mount it on the wall and then have a bluetooth keyboard and mighty mouse:D  and also if that wasnt true, you could have the same screen maybe a little thinner with a different bottom so it could swivel 360 degrees instead up and down.  anyways I need help to choose betweeen 20" and 17"

I;ve got a question, if the ports are on the back, who do you access them if its mounted directly on the wall?

On the flat back iMac G5's the ports were on the side. The side the Front Row remote now sits on I think...

They were on the back in a column towards the right side.

The iMacs with iSights have have the ports along the bottom on the back.

I think that Black and White options would be cool along with a 23" model for $1999 or less (hopefully).

It would be cool if the chin left us as well.

Aren't those just fast Pentium 4s... that aren't even that fast?

I wouldn't say that, but I do like the design of the G4 iMacs so much better than the current ones. They just looked so cool and futuristic. The G5/Intels just look like an oversized monitor.

I used to think the new iMac design looked like a Pizza box. But after owning one for a year, it really is a great design. I don't notice the "chin" at all, I actually kind of like it now, with the Apple logo in the middle. I think it gives it good balance, it would be weird to pretty much see the entire base, I could probably see to the end of my desk if it were not there. When I am at the computer, I don't see a single cable. The only thing I would like changed is to have a headphone jack on the front, and when something is connect, it overrides the back one. I had an old iMac G3 and it had 2 headphone jacks on the front and performed as I wanted. So when I want to, I can listen to music with headphones and not bother anyone.
