I want a round imac. It's ellipitcal in shape, rounded, but not like an emac. It has a built in keyboard. Maybe I'll sketch something out to show you what I mean. :)

It would be amazing if apple placed the sleep light behind the apple logo. How awesome would it be to have an illuminated apple logo, like on the apple notebooks?

Aren't those just fast Pentium 4s... that aren't even that fast?

They are probably talking about the Core2Duo, which intel dubbed an "extreme edition." There are extreme P4s, but i doubt that those would ever go in a mac...

the next imac

the ultimate design change, in my opinion... dual screens!

for those of you who've never used dual screens, you don't know how cool it is until you try. i think it'd be awesome if there were two screens, either side by side or one on top.

dual dvd (or blu-ray) drives would be cool as well.

maybe media or shortcut buttons on the chin? an ipod-style wheel button in place of the apple logo, with functionality for programs like itunes, or final cut.

how about a cover for that built-in isight? i don't want to be the next numa-numa.

man, apple needs to hire me.

They need to address the iMac's biggest problem. You pay for that big LCD screen but when the computer become obsolite you have to throw the LCD screen away long with the computer. This makes the iMac expensive to replace.

Wouldn't it be great if the imac used some kind of munular design or at least if the iMac have a "video in" port so the iMac could be used as a monitor

How is it expensive when Apple computers routinely sell used for more than any other computer on the market? This may not always be true but it has been in the past. Who cares that you can't reuse a display that is worth less than $200. Buy a "modular" generic PC and see how much you get back from it when you sell it in a couple of years.

I wanted a new mac and a flat screen tv for my new bedroom.

Great I thought. I'll get an imac, stick an eyeTv in and hang it on the wall. Get a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and I'm sorted. Then I found that the intel macs have no Vesa mounting capability

So I'd like any new design to be Vesa mountable. (and include a TV tuner out of the box)

As it stands I'm having to buy an LCD tv for the wall and I've persuaded myself that I'd benefit from a macbook pro ;) . A lot more expensive than a wall mounted imac.....

I'd like to see a removal of the chin, but it is there for a reason, and if they have to keep it, I would like it to be more like the shape of the chins on some new Samsung TVs:

Design aspects I would like to see...

* Smaller Chin - I too, like the masses would like a smaller chin, as it is currently something difficult to get use to for me.

* Unique Mount - Something different, something really adjustable (height, 360, possibly wall)

* Bigger Screen - If they release any model bigger than a 20 inch, I would be first in line. I'm not sure if I'm ready to suit up for a G5/Mac Pro + Display, but I need something a little more "real estate" than a 17/20 inch for my work)

*?* Color - If they made one in black, it would make my decision that much harder, so color isn't a big deal to me.

* More USB 2.0 ports.

Ha I'm quoting you but whatever, you make a point about that though. Remember the 20th anniversary mac didn't come out for almost a year after the anniversary. It would be awesome if a 30 inch iMac came out, with the ultimate specs for a ridiculously expensive price.

A 30" iMac is absurd.

How is it expensive when Apple computers routinely sell used for more than any other computer on the market?
This was true when Apple progressions were slow and steady - a two-year old machine wasn't necessarily that far off the pace of the latest and greatest. That artificially enhances value.

In the Intel age, with the rapid advances in technology over the next few years (Core Duo to 64-bit Core 2 Duo to quad-core chips to octa-core, etc.), the same won't be true. People aren't going to pay top dollar for a used iMac that's two or three technology generations behind. (Now, will the iMac be usable? Absolutely, probably even good. But the marketing that comes along with new processors and new designs isn't going to aid in public perception.)

This may not always be true but it has been in the past.
Too bad the past has little bearing on the future here.

Who cares that you can't reuse a display that is worth less than $200.
Uh, the 20" ACD costs more than $200 last I checked.

Buy a "modular" generic PC and see how much you get back from it when you sell it in a couple of years.
That's the idea. Your iMac will now begin to depreciate in the same way that "generic PCs" depreciate.

Are you serious? The purpose of having dual screens is to have a bigger screen withought having to pay for a super expensive widescreen huge display. Why put two SEPERATE screens built in to ONE computer?!?! Why not just make...a Bigger screen. It's the exact same thing as dual screens...without a bar in the middle.

Thank god you dont work for apple.

I personally would love it if Apple decided to design the iMac so that when it gets too old, you could hook it up to a Mac Pro and use the iMac as a display. Unfortuantly, this would be bad for business.

If you want to compare it that way....

a Core Duo Mini costs (at least here) $1100, and that is priced with huge generosity on Apple's part on account that I am a student. Apple doesn't make a cent off me, I swear!

Likewise I just put together a PC for a friend with a Pentium Dual Core 2.66Ghz CPU, 1GB of memory, 160GB hard drive, and a real 7600GT mainboard, with Windows XP Pro OEM license, for a yay over what Apple charged me.

Hey, for what it is worth maybe the Core Duo will win the P4D 2.66Ghz in some areas, but overall which computer is better? I certainly won't be playing even a 7 year old Warcraft III on my Mini, that's for sure...

Why don't they just make the iMac with a removable faceframe, that way you could change the color to anything you like, kinda like the Xbox 360 with the removable faceplates? When you're tired of white, go black, or whatever color you want.

My only other request would be that it could be more easily upgradable. I'd love to be able to upgrade the CPU, video graphics, etc without having to pull it apart like I did with my Bondi Blue iMac.

That's the idea. Your iMac will now begin to depreciate in the same way that "generic PCs" depreciate.

The reason why Macs sell for more than PCs is that people have good experiences with older Macs working and people are willing to pay a premium for their timeless designs (see prices for the iBook G3 and iMac G4 on Ebay if you need proof). Sure, everytime there is a major bump Macs will depreciate but I don't see the major bumps coming that much faster now that we are with Intel. When was the last major iMac update? Six months ago? Sure there was a minor processor bump on the Macbook Pros, but minor processor updates won't do too much to the value of its predecessor on Ebay. Apple is still only doing major revisions every 6-9 months at this point...Intel may be doing more major upgrades for the next couple of years but they can't keep it up forever. They will hit another wall.

Comparing the cost of the iMac display to an ACD is kinda silly since you can get the same display for much less if you shop around. If you unbundle the display from an iMac then you lose the value of the sleek all in one design so the display is worth no more than a 20" Dell.
