I didn't mean macrumours. I meant in the UK where I live.

I'm in the UK too, so again my OP stands.

maybe but let’s not pretend that WhatsApp isn’t the most used messenger app in the EU, Latin America and many places in Africa. There is a huge difference between the US and the countries I just mention. Just like Asian countries use wechat and (viper? For some reason)

I'm not saying it's not popular, just saying that it shouldn't be dictated that all people in the UK only use WhatsApp (yea, I'm exaggerating a little, but since other people are, I'm joining the club 😉)

since all browsers on iOS are just Safari in a wrapper, you might as well stay on safari

I like that I can sync bookmarks across windows and Linux, I bet others would too. I find it funny Firefox has picture in picture for a while and they are announcing this for Safari now.

The mail app is fine for me, but I’ll use Firefox as my browser.

Firefox for the browser on day one, but hoping there's developers out there that will try and do their own thing. Would love to set Halide as the default camera app if it were possible, that and Darkroom for the camera roll would be nice.

Safari for browser, of course. As for Mail, probably Spark.

Same. Use Safari everywhere Apple and Brave when I’m off the platform but that’s honestly not too often anymore. Spark is easily my favorite email client—use it on iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac.

I’d like to be able to switch default music and maps apps but happy I can at least switch to Spark.

Still a generalization. You're mistaking a person observation with a qualified fact.

Most folkI speak to use iMessage. Pretty sure more than one of them uses Whatsapp to talk to the majority of their friends. Others use Facebook messenger etc.

None of it means any more than than just that.

brave still doesn’t have book markers working yet

Huh? Bookmarks on Brave have been working fine for me for months...

I use Mail and Safari on both iOS and the Mac. I do use Chrome and Firefox in the Mac and Firefox on iOS in some instances. But rarely. For my work PC I use Firefox. Edge is on it by default as a Surface, but it is not a good browser.

I do use Spark as a Gmail desktop client app on my Macs.

Apple users that need to communicate with Android users will probably use WhatsApp. I prefer using iMessage wherever possible, and I use WhatsApp for all my Android contacts..I think that this is the case for most Apple users.
US-based here. Family, friends and co-workers tend to just use either iMessage, Facebook Messenger or good ‘ol SMS/MMS.

Of course, plans with unlimited SMS/MMS is the norm here.

Just the default Safari and Mail app. Any browser on iOS are pretty much Safari anyway, without the extra speed the stock Safari gets.

Jesus Christ guys it was just a throwaway comment. I'm sorry if I offended you.

My main point is I wish apple would let us use a different messaging app as default.

Ill stick with safari and the stock mail app. They work fine for me.
Same for me, see absolutely no reason to use anything else, for me personally.

Also just to jump into the conversation, I am in the UK and don't know anyone who doesn't use WhatsApp, everyone I know has iPhone's as well so doesn't make sense to me! I'd much rather not use anything Facebook related.

Same, Spark is a lot more powerful. My most used feature is the reminder for when people don't respond to my mails. I often delegate work and it's so handy that I don't have to keep track of it manually. No more ignoring my mails and hope I forget about them ;-)

While the browsing engine is the same for any iOS browser there can be other reasons to use another browser on iOS. If someone uses windows they might want to use Chrome or Edge so their bookmarks sync across browsers on different systems. The duckduckgo iOS browser has some really good privacy features, etc...

What default browser and mail apps will you use? I'm fine with Safari on iOS but for some reason I just hate it on Mac. I am a Chrome user normally but am thinking of moving the Edge as it's Chromium but with nicer tracking prevention. So I may switch to Edge on iOS.

As for Mail, I'm a Mail app user that's reasonably happy with the stock Mail client. Are there others that you would recommend?

What combination will you use?

Spark is a pretty good email program that keeps some of the garbage out of your view.

I agree Spark is probably the frontrunner 3rd party mail app in features and quality.

Issue is after Edison debacle even a simple bug can expose your data, privacy policy or not. I cant agree with a sync account policy that Spark also uses. That is the vulnerability that caused the Edison issue; syncing mail accounts to other users.

Luckily I havent read of any mass damage like identity theft or account/bank account theft from it; but totally possible with password reset ability.

I cant get on board with an app using that system. The app worked just fine before requiring a sync account; especially if you dont use the Team features and dont own another device to sync send later/reminders too. IMAP syncs email and status (read, unread, flag, etc) by default; this is just sync of the Readdle features.

It should be optional not forced to use the app, I dont agree with that policy at all. And there must be a reason for it behind the scenes that the user cannot elect not to have a Spark account; only shady ones too. There is no good reason you are forced to have one to use the app (especially on just one device you dont need syncing)

Agreed. I don't know anyone who uses Messages, everyone, including business and individuals use WhatsApp.
