I have the X, and of course there is absolutely no reason to upgrade. The issue I have is not allowing X users to have the new camera features. This has nothing to do with the limits of the X. That being said, it's not worth an upgrade. Don't get me wrong, the XS/Max are great phones, but not a new year upgrade. For me, the biggest thing was not still offering the X. I don't understand that. I guess to push people to XR.

With all that said, there really isn't anything new to talk about. Sure the camera features are cool, but a whole upgrade cycle cool? Not in the least. The only reason I see for anyone to get these is if your a current plus user and you need an absolutely giant phone, or you didn't get the X and are on a 7. Other than those two things, this is not a upgrade. This to me is the worst S upgrade we have seen from Apple.

Pro Motion.

Face ID 2. As in, drastically better Face ID. It’s fine currently, but there’s clearly large room for improvement, ala Touch ID 1 to 2.

Camera wise, it’s already surpassed, by far, my ability to take decent pictures. Massively better shooting in low lighting is something I’d upgrade for though.

Aside from someone desperately wanting 512gb, I see almsot zero incentive to go X to Xs. Max is another matter, big deal if you want a huge screen.

There is no pro motion in the either the XS or Max.

Heh no worries.

I’m sort of glad there isn’t anything too enticing about the new ones, I’ve not got the slightest feeling of “I want to, but I shouldn’t”, that I usually feel.

Yep me either. I have the X and see no reason to upgrade. I am planning to get the Apple Watch series 4. Think it’s worth the upgrade.

I forget, will the Max have the split UI in landscape like previous plus phones? I was Plus all the way to the X, it’s one thing I really did not like about the Plus. Always seemed like a bodge, poorly thought out, and very hit and miss.

Same :)

Nice upgrade from my Series 2. Roll on the 21st.

I’ll be after a new iPad Pro when they hopefully appear in the next couple of months too.

So many posters on here seem to think Apple completely missed the boat with insufficient additional features.

Then you get a post like this and it essentially boils down to promotion. So next year we get promotion and most will say “perfect”?

It would have been a really nice feature to promote this year, imagine having the first OLED 120hz display on a phone.

I want Pro Motion, but I’m not actually of the opinion this year is a disappointment. Phones have been mature for years now across the board, yearly upgrades become ever more pointless as the clock ticks by.

I was merely highlighting the stuff that’d tempt me to upgrade from my X, which I’m incredibly satisfied with.

I don’t know exactly what I was hoping for, but I do know the XS doesn’t have enough for me to upgrade this year.

Some things that may get me to consider next year:

  • ProMotion
  • Improved FaceID- meaning it unlocks faster, closer to the face, at more extreme angles.
  • True fast wireless charging. Still not sure what the XS has.
  • A telephoto lens that is more than 2x- preferably 4x if possible.
  • Wider aperatures on both camera/better lowlight performance.
  • Reduced notch size would be nice.

I’m if the same opinion. My post was a general response to the OP.

Ya’ll are thinking too simple. Where’s the full AR hud with built in sound and 20K level video, the ‘minority report’ style hand controls, camera that can take a perfect photo and video at any speed or lighting, zippy new antenna that works at 20G speeds and never has a bad signal, unlimited storage, battery that lasts 6 months on a single charge.

An extra row of icons! I mean, if these new X phones are proportionally taller than the 16:9 Plus phones, why the heck can't they give an option to add an extra row? Android has all kinds of apps and launchers that allow to customize...why can't Apple???

Spacing out the dead space between the icons is just waste!

I was really torn between the Xs and Xs Max but I've been using Plus size phones since the first one, so the Xs Max I am already use to in a sense, but looking forward to the OLED display and increased size. I think some would say it's missing the earphone jack, but that has been gone and speaking for myself I never used it even when they had it. I am curious what they mean by faster wireless charging does anyone really know? I can see why someone with an iPhone X doesn't see this a worthy upgrade. I on the other hand having missed a few model upgrades do. I generally keep these phones 2 to 3 years minimum. The days of needing to upgrade every year is really gone. I know there are those that do it, but they don't really need to, they just want too.

It’s not just the icons. Unless I’m reading bad info, the Max displays exactly the same thing as the regular Xs, just bigger. The extra space isn’t used to show extra info.

Pen support definitely. I was hoping for it, so I could jot down quick notes at work.
