What Do You Hate About Apple?

Most of us are here because we love Apple and hate Windoze. But, in all good things, there's always some stuff that we hate - nobody's perfect. So I'm curious to know what y'all hate about Apple.

I'll start with my two biggest hates:

1) Apple almost never lets us know ahead of time about product launches, so figuring out when to buy is agonizing unless you buy just after a refresh ... but who knows when that'll be?

2) The keyboard and mouse on the desktops. Let's face it - a white keyboard that's completely open gets dirty pretty much as soon as you open the box. And the clear plastic casing lets you see the wondrous ghosts of snacks past. And yeah, the "Mighty Mouse" was perhaps a revolution in the scroll wheel -> ball, but there are so many better mice out there that it's silly that Apple's is lacking in so many areas.

They're too bipolar about product development. They too often make an interesting product, and then get bored and stop updating it, and then let it quietly die off without announcement after a couple of years.

Too much emphasis on raw processor speed over a product that has better all around performance. We're on Intel now and they're making fanfare over speed bump updates just like it was back on PowerPC.

Nothing! What is there to hate? Apple is a great company with its customers best interest in mind, run by a man with a good heart. I would even go as far as saying the world is a better place becuase of Apple's outstanding product lines! :eek: :eek: :eek:

I would add to this that it is sometimes irritating (to say the least) to understand Apple's marketing logic. How many posts have there been about a "headless" iMac/midrange desktop machine? Many people post on this subject, but the number of opinions is almost as large as the number of posts. I know Apple must maximize profit from their machines due to their niche role in the computer market, but it seems like now is the time to change strategies. Since Apple is now competing head-to-head with other Intel machines, why not introduce the same lines of computers as are available from Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.? The rumor of the demise of the mini flies in the face of this logic, which just goes to prove my opening point.

they keep innovating and wanting me to buy more :)

i know that's one of the reasons why they are in business and it's supposed to be, but i hate that they are so good at it (ie. i don't really NEED an iphone, but boy oh boy, do i want one :)

Apple is secretive because it's vital to their welfare.

1. Look at all the free press Apple gets when they release something new. Look at all the fanfare surrounding the mystery of the iPhone.

2. It helps to ensure that the competition is kept at bay.

The iPod range. First they MAKE me want to buy an iPod Mini, so I oblige. Then they MAKE me want to buy a shuffle, so again I oblige! Then they release the 2nd gen shuffle, so again I oblige! Now I feel obliged to buy the 5th Gen iPod 30GB with Video :D

The constant, seemingly pointless updates. All the attention given to the iPhone. Did the iPod receive all this glory? (This is a real question, I didn't follow Apple much until '05). Apple seems to have forgotten about the product that brought it out of the abyss. Well, in 8 minutes of thinking hard, this is all I'm able to come up with.

I HATE THE GRAPHICS OPTIONS FOR THE MAC PRO.

This 1900 next to my friends 8800 makes me pissy.

Yeah, with the release of the iPod mini, two generations of iPod Shuffles, two generations of iPod Nanos, and video-capable iPods since the introduction of the 1G iPod, and tons and tons of iPod ads on hundreds of television stations and thousands of web sites, I would say you've got a solid point there. :rolleyes:

Oh, and don't forget that the iPhone has a built-in touchscreen iPod as well.

Would you also say Apple has forgotten about the Mac?

I hate newbies who come on the Apple board and start threads like "What do you hate about Apple?" If I hated Apple, I would not be here. But then, I am not a MS/Dell troll, trying to pass myself off as an Apple user/fan.

The lack of a mouse with a proper right mouse button, and lack of decent graphics hardware for gamers.
