My experience is that most work can be done on an iPad Pro 12.9’, although those with specialist needs (such as programming) may find it is not possible due to lack of suitable software. I agree the Smart Keyboard is a game changer for doing real work. And iOS 11 has made working on an iPad just as fast as on a desktop
Ok. Yes, I can see what you are saying. But what I was referring to in my post was about the sheer volume/ amount of work this individual does with the iPad being incidental to the workload.

For me, the iPad is an essential part of a three-device set up and it has a set of functions. I have a phone for when I am out and about. Aside from reddit and some news and stuff like what’s app and telegram, and the occasional video and normal calls, I don’t use it for much else. My main computing device is a Surface Pro 4, which is hooked up to a dock with monitors and a couple of external HDDs. This is where I do about 50% of my work, which involves writing...a lot!

The IPP 10.5 for me is my digital notebook which I use to do my research, which involves reading books and journal articles. This is where I do the other 50% of my work. Obviously I annotate what I read and make notes so the Pencil is a must-have for me. In addition to this I use the IPP to hand write notes and ideas and points of interest related to my research. I also use it for YouTube (some specific subject related documentaries), I check my mail, browse etc. I am never without my phone AND the IPP.

In short, the IPP is a really helpful piece of kit for me.

That said, and as gorgeous as it may be (I have ordered one for myself), Apple’s pricing for that Midnight Blue leather sleeve with the Pencil holder is brutal!!

Ok guys, I just picked up a Space Gray iPad 32GB (2017) at Best Buy yesterday for $270 and I got $50 off the Logitech Keyboard case! I'm loving it so far! It's fast and the screen is beautiful!

Realistically everything!

I have recently published a full colour marketing booklet on my iPad Pro 12.9

I have created full colour posters ready for offset printing

I do all my photo edits and video editing on iPad Pro 12.9

I have done full multi track audio recording with effects and then exported the mix down

All the usual surfing, email, social media

Time management (bonus it syncs with my iPhone too! (Calendar appointments etc).

Presentations for business proposals... I make the ppt on the iPad Pro and then bring the iPad Pro to the meeting and use it to give the presentation.

I have found ways to do everything that I did on MacBook Pro with one exception.... web design. I need a WYSIWYG editor and can’t find one. Coda is good if you don’t mind straight coding though.

I had to switch to iPad Pro full time as my 2012 MacBook Pro without retina screen I just couldn’t look at it after using the iPad pros gorgeous screen... it actually hurt my eyes and I could see the pixels on the MacBook Pro :( so I sold it and only use the iPad Pro now. For extra storage I have a western digital wireless my passport Pro 4 TB. Works flawlessly with File Browser and it’s portable. It’s also a hub for any USB storage and SD card reader as well plus a backup battery to charge your phone or iPad on the go.

i just ordered a mosiso (like case logic) 13” nylon laptop sleeve for $12 (free shipping) from walmart.

i have an lv monogram ipad case for the air 2 (bought it when i had the retina)... gonna miss using it

Cellular Mini 4: Reading news, managing business calendar and personal calendar, Siri manages my bill payment reminders and shopping list, texting, email, instructional videos and websites, participating in forums I belong to, taking photographs, managing vehicle data, checking weather and wind (I kayak), GPS, trip planning, police/fire scanner, reading magazines and books via Kindle, shopping, math calculations, taking notes, managing finances. I also make and receive phone calls - including international calls - at no cost other than my data plan - via an app I have.

I use my ipad mini 2 for reading, playing best fiends, netflix and youtube when I'm traveling and visiting forums.

You do a lot of work going by that list!!
Yes, but I’m an artist and I don’t count the art-work work and the other creative research as "work." What I can say is the iPad helps me do my work-work (the stuff I don’t enjoy) more efficiently and, just as importantly, more pleasantly.

I’m almost fully assimilated into a mobile-nimble-iOS-cloud mindset.

Just purchase iPad Pro 10.5" 256GB Space Gray Wi-Fi model. It took me forever t decide to spend the $800+.

It replaces my iPad Mini 2 and will be surfing the internet, YouTubing, Netflix, Amazon Prime and DirecTVNow watching. What was the deciding factor was the 4GBs of DDRLP4 RAM. My Mini only has 1GB of old DDRLP3 RAM. I purchase the Mini 2 with cellular inside and 128GB for $600. So $200 more did not seem that expensive if you think about it in that comparison price point. I am going pass on the iPhone X since it going cost $1,400 for 256GB model with sales tax included.

It is still in it box and I probably will be setting it up tomorrow.

Got you. I can particularly relate to when you said "I don’t count the art-work work and the other creative research as "work." The same is the case with me - for the most part - though I am not an artist.

But just to clarify, my comment was meant in a positive sense and not in any negative/ sarcastic way.

Oh I didn’t take it negatively! I’m a self-confessed workaholic—although I also cultivate sloth. The iPad supports both. :)

I just got the leather sleeve. It works well with the IPP (with ASC in my case). I am waiting on a Khomo backcover and I want to see if the combo fits without too much distortion to the sleeve. It would be an ideal situation for me if it works.

Again - totally applicable to me too!! Birds of a feather of a sort...!!

Got my 10.5 yesterday. Great device.
I have been using ipad since ipad 3 for taking notes at work, then in school at night too.
Mark up document
Design website wireframe
Preview photos (I do some product photography, my workflow including shooting and importing to ipad and syncing onto adobe cloud, so I can access it at home). Showing photo portfolio to clients.
Watch 4k netflix, youtube, etc. (general media consumption)
Checking emails, then use continuity to get back to my mac when I need to type out longer and complex email.
Accessing our company CRM, managing clients
Accessing company marketing backend
Do some light sketching

I am using iPad 12.9” instead of my Mac for everything (work, movies, browsing, etc.). I have an old MacBook Air as Plex media server where I have all my movies. So far very happy with the iPad.

Been using it for music, discord, and reference notes and code while working on my primary desktop. It's like a second screen but has it's own CPU power which helps when all 12 cores are working hard. It's a lot easier to manipulate than say a laptop for the same job.

My iPad mini 2 was mostly used for reading and annotating PDFs for university. Now that I graduated, it will pretty much be used as a GPS for long trips, travel movie player and possibly the occasional website browser. I feel like I use it less and less the more I have it.

  1. watch videos or listen to music while working out
  2. read news
  3. surf web
  4. play games
  5. check email
  6. hospital work
  7. good travel companion
I use my macBook 12" for the same things. Tend to default to the Macbook 12" over the iPad 10.5 for the above. A lot of work related computing relies on Windows so I use a PC for that over the iPad. Not much business use for the iPad except for some work at the hospital (like the UptoDate app).

I use my iPad much more than I use my iPhone. I take it to roughly 8 meetings a week. I use it to take notes and call up information in the meeting. Microsoft OneNote is my note taking app. We are an Office 365 environment, and the iPad works great with all the Office 365 apps.

I also use my iPad out in the field, because it’s so much more convenient than a laptop... especially when I’m standing up.

Our facilities department just bought 150 of them to use in the field for accessing and updating work orders. We are managing them with JAMF.

Note taking / sketching network diagrams (this is the big one)
Scanning documents so i don't lose them
Email / calendar
Terminal client via AirConsole
Web applications such as our helpdesk system
Reading documentation
Writing documentation
RDP client into my desktop workstation at work if i need Windows to do something on the corporate network.

The top two are huge.

I no longer have various sketch books on my desk to take notes or draw diagrams for planning things. It's all done on the ipad, where they are dated, search-able, filed in folders, replicated to all my devices, etc. - rather than lost.

I haven't quite eliminated paper from my desk, but i'm pretty close.
