What are you doing with a developer copy then? Why don't you sign up for the beta program and wait and get a legit beta?

Let's just say I'am not the most patient person in the world :D
So I got it early.

I do signed for beta program, but it's not up yet obviously.

But honestly, DP1 feels stable enough to be released for this half-closed beta program, I can't quite catch it what are they waiting for.

Ive always been a fan of OSX but the new UI is ugly (i hate ios7) and the new features are mainly for iphone integration (i use android) That being said i will certainly be upgrading for any background improvements.

After looking through the screen shots on Apple's website I think it looks amazing. Hopefully there won't be too many usability issues with the transparency/flatness/thin fonts.

I kind of wish Apple didn't hate google so much. No google search support in the new spotlight?! Instead we have to use bing? Not cool.

My phone runs android and even though I understand why Apple does it I kind of wish they kept the interests of iOS and OSX a bit more separate. (The integration is awesome but there is no reason save spite/greed that icloud can't be available on android for example).

Still looks like a nice upgrade. Provided there aren't any nasty surprises (ala loss of Save as in Lion).

BIG yawn.

I think instead of Yosemite, it should have been named SEINFELD. (if you watched the show, and know the premise of the show, you get what I mean.)

I tried to input something which would suggest me bing search in spotlight, but couldn't think of anything :D It's giving me wikipedia page or dictionary.

And as for safari, it's still using google.

Great, now Mavericks is the new Snow Leopard. Except Mavericks isn't even that good. I'm this close to just going over to Windows 7.

So you don't like the direction OS X is going, so instead of staying on it with an old version you're going to go use an old version of windows which you also don't like the direction of? Riiiight.

What's not to like?

Yosemite is pretty much a polished up version of Mavericks. The fresh UI, and New features are great additions to the OS.

I am looking forward to iCloud Drive (basically bringing back iDisk which I miss terribly) and the answering my phone and hotspot features. So far this is pretty smooth for a first beta release.

heh, yeah.. except for them just dropping it like they did.. that was sort of lame. (but in fairness- they gave clear warnings far in advance as well as free iCloud)

anyway, i currently use dropbox.. something i don't particularly like with dropbox when using it for syncing working files is that it will upload when autosave or a new version is created of the file.. this can potentially happen every 5 minutes and with larger files, it's just a constant uploading/syncing process.. it becomes more of a mess when you have the same file open on two computers at once.. it would be better if the file didn't upload until the user closes the file.. maybe iCloud drive will work better?

another thing with dropbox that pretty much sux is that, even though it's constantly uploading due to versioning changes, the versions don't stick with the file.. i.e.- if you open a file which has run through dropbox, there are no versions attached to it.. (same thing if emailing, usb drive, etc.)

hopefully they've come up with a way to let files going through iCloud drive to maintain their versions if, say, the file is being transferred from the same owner.

And think of all the money those Apple employees make for doing so. Do you honestly care about their well being? Many of them involved in the design of OS X and iOS mostly likely are getting in their upscale BMW's and eating dinner at posh restaurants that many of us could not afford, so do yourself a favor, don't worry about them. ;)

And I don't know how long you've been an Apple customer (I've been on Mac for over 15 years) but the releases that were 1.5-2 years between upgrades weren't much better than what we get now. It has nothing to do with giving them more time. Most of the feature upgrades have been in the pipeline for years. They just don't release them until the time is right.

I've been a Mac user since 1996, so OS X 9.1 days.

I can say for sure Mac operating systems saw huge leaps in the 10.3 to 10.5 days. We don't see those kinda moves from Apple these days.

I guess I've always been interested in the advances of the operating system and not the features. Steve Jobs always pushed that. "Most advance operating system." To me Apple is just attracting users now.

But look they made their engineers slave on another photos app... That brings Apple made photo applications to 5!

An I know how the software world is. It doesn't matter how much you get paid. If your working 50-60 hour weeks your stressed out. Software Developing is one of the most stressful jobs.

I need to see the new UI on a real machine sitting in front of me, but for the most part I wasn't impressed with the "flattening" of stuff. Jonathan Ive must think everyone thinks and reacts to things like a small child does. I wasn't impressed with the UI from what I saw from the video, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it might be. A lot of Ive's stuff seems to have almost a cartoonish and childish appearance to it.

I'll probably like some of the new features....if they work, that is.

Indifferent at this stage….. Let's see how it goes, but chances are it won't on my Core 2 Duo Mini, still running Mountain Lion. It could be a factor when the time comes that I have to make a decision between repairing / upgrading, or replacing it.

With the slow internet connection I have where I'm at, downloading Mavericks is not worth the hassle, and a lot of on-line benefits are not readily available anyway.

You're joking, right? This is just as big as any software release in the early OS X days. They released a new programming language, for crying out loud.

You might make a case that there are fewer flashy consumer-level features on OS X compared to iOS, but OS X is a much more mature OS.

while i don't necessarily agree with that at face value (or- 10.3 to leopard was more about getting osx to run well/stable.. now, it runs great and focus shifts towards usability)

that aside,
10.3 - oct.2003
10.5 - oct.2007

10.8 - july.2012
10.10- oct.2014(?)

(as in— 2 extra years of dev time in the former comparison -or- to make a similar comparison as panther|leopard, you'd have to do lion|yosemite)

I guess the days of waiting a few years for a new OS are gone...

Its sad because the quality of these releases will suffer. Think of all of the Apple employees who have to redesign something every year.

Wouldn't it be better for Apple to do something really big and blow our socks off like they used to?

You clearly haven't been reading the news sites today if you think Apple must take 2-3 years to develop a new OS in order to blow someone's socks off...

Honestly, the new UI isn't something that screams "LOOK AT ME, I'M NEW!!" when you launch Yosemite for the first time. In fact, I'd say it actually does the opposite and just blends into the rest of the system, which is what I think they have been aiming for since at least 10.6.

I'll need to see how it looks. I thought I would hate iOS 7, but I actually like it just fine. But I've used OS X since 10.5 as my main computer OS, and I had familiarity with Tiger and whatever those "box" Macs were running in the mid-90s in many schools. I was still running SL up until last fall when I got my rMBP and upgraded my 09 MBP after much consideration.

Yosemite will take some getting used to. I might opt for dark mode over stock light mode. Not sure about Connectivity yet. I don't really iMessage from my Mac, so I don't think SMS or calling would be useful. I might have to turn off my iDevices during finals week if it becomes annoying. Icloud drive sounds interesting, but I'll have to see if apps like Notability will integrate with it. Unfortunately I can't get the iWork iOS apps for free, so that limits my use for it. Google Drive is free for any user regardless of which devices and when they were purchased.

I like most of it. Especially continuity. They went nuts with the transparency, though. I think it'll look terrible with lots of overlapping windows onscreen. Reminds me of 10.0 in that respect. Hopefully they will dial it down before the release. Luckily the icons did not inherit iOS 7's ugliness, except for maybe the folders.

Dark Mode could be nice...does anyone know if it affects windows in general and not just the menu? I wonder if it's the new interface's "Graphite," and makes the stoplight buttons grey...

I want to try continuity but don't know how to turn it on.

Graphite is still there and just removes the blue highlights and makes the stoplight buttons grey. Just like before.

(And thank Jobs for that, since graphite was introduced in Mac OS X Public Beta it has never been turned off on any mac I’ve ever used).

Can I install this beta on top of my current mavericks and have all my current apps and files?
I've enrolled to beta program and still waiting for the email.

Also does the cross feature with iOS like airdrop, call, etc already works? If it works, I'm planning to upgrade my iPhone to iOS 8 as well. I'm enrolled to iOS dev program so I can get the beta directly.

Hold off until at least one more beta if it’s your main device. Not ready for wide consumption yet.

Thanks for the heads up. Maybe I'll just update my iPad Mini as I never use it other than watching movie on VLC.
