Isn't that what the Mac Minis are there for?

I hope the new iMacs will look like this.... (Please forgive the crudeness!)

So a Cinema Display with a slot in the side?

I like! :D

I can see the top of the range iMac being the SR 2.4Ghz, 500GB HDD, 2GB RAM, 8600GT or whatever the iMac can fit in (for the GPU). Nothing outstanding, but it's the look that's going to sway people. Hopefully in the same vein as the Apple TV, Cinema Displays, MacBook Pros and Mac Pros. Yum.

The Rev. A 1.6Ghz model we used to have at home was quiet as a mouse.

The iMac G5s I've used all were quiet at idle. But once you started to use them the noise level went up pretty quickly (depending on the tasks). Compared to the current model which keeps the same low noise level even when you push the CPU (well you'll get a couple of dBs more on the smaller models).
Also the G5 was very power hungry.

my guess would be 17inch will replace the mac mini

one of my mates said wouldn't it be cool if they put all the hardware in the base (like a macmini size), rather than the screen, although it would look a bit wierd, atleast the screen could be exceptionally thin, and no chin :D

I'd like to see (including the 500 GB HD I mentioned earlier):

500GB HD
2 GB RAM (hopeful, but will likely be 1GB standard)
Smaller chin (a little chin looks better than none I think)
Better video card (anything but the current)
Superdrive (to simply keep up with technology)
Video in - I'd like some sort of TV Card. With the brilliance of some of the newer and larger apple displays, I would like to have a quick hookup for TV without buying a bunch of other stuff

This stuff would make me content on my new iMac :D

500GB HD: Maybe standard on the 24"
2GB Ram: iMac Specs have in past closely resemble MBP specs, and considering you can get dell PC's for well under 1k with monitor with 2GB Ram, would expect it to be standard in at least the 24"
Smaller Chin: Agreed
Better Video Card: Agreed, would say 20 inch will share same GPU as MBP, with the 24 inch one offering something slightly more powerfull, maybe a 512mb or 320mb card as a BTO
Video In: Would be nice, but unlikely

I would like to add to that

HDCP compatable displays in case one would like to add a blu ray drive at a later date, and displays with a half decent response time, 8ms at the highest

I think a desktop should be faster than a notebook. Yes, the margin between desktop and laptop speeds has substantially decreased over the years, I think Apple should convince people to go for the iMac over the already popular portable MacBook Pro because of it's higher capacities.

I'd REALLY like to see a glossy screen option available.

I'd like to see 2.4GHz Santa Rosa as the default speed and then upgradable to 2.6GHz? 4GB of RAM option.

A new form factor would be cool, but it's not necessary to sell me on one. :D

EDIT: I don't think an aluminum style iMac would be too attractive though.

why are we talking about an iMac with less chin? I thought it was agreed the next iMac will have a brand new striking industrial design, not a mod of the current design.

I don't think this will be a small redesign. It will be a massive change. The Wedge idea didn't work, but at least it was a thought outside of the square.

I have to agree with Scarlet Fever. I think there will be no chin. I am hoping Apple will go back to the G4 iMac look but way sweeter... A nice display and the computer parts all in the base.

That is a rumor. And it is still questionable.
I can think of all kinds of crazy new designs, but frankly I fail to see why they would take that route when they have a winning concept that only needs adjustments.
Also, it wouldn't take a lot to change the current design into a "brand new striking industrial design". It could just be a matter of changing materials, colors, and curves.

I am confused as to the benefit of a glossy screen on a desktop...

First things first: Drop 17 and mini, make new mid tower consumer.

For the Imac:

Sr 2.2ghz +
8600GT 256mb +
1.5 G standard RAM?
Free Leopard coupon with purchase

And i cant think of anything else...

Oh... and drop the prices. We all like low prices :D .
