I have VMware fusion running XP Pro on my MBP and here are the only 2 reasons I have used it so far:
1. OneNote: since I'm a student and OneNote makes it really easy to take notes and I have not yet found a similar program for OS X

what about you guys/gals?

Unless you have a need to integrate One Note with Outlook then you should really give Circus Ponies Notebook a try. They make exclusively for Mac OS X and have won awards on their note taking software. You've greatly missed out if you haven't tried it.

I have Windows on my Mac installed via VMware Fusion but only for testing purposes, nothing else, I hardly use it.

My company uses a specific token generator that has to run in Windows for VPN access and it just makes it easier to use boot camp for it.

I just ordered a copy of Windows Vista Basic.

I will be mostly using Windows for the websites that only work in Internet Explorer, like Outlook Web Access with my job (it's so much better in IE). I also plan to use it for games and my Creative MP3 player (while I put off getting an iPod until the fall).

Quicken/Windows (Windows version much better . . . . and less expensive.)
TurboTax/Windows (Mac Version isn't bad.)
Sony Digital Voice Recorder SW (No Mac version)

Quicken/Windows is still vastly superior to Quicken/Mac.
That alone makes my Fusion/WinXP system worth it.

I have Windoze XP and Parallels. I need to use IE explorer 6 or 7 because that's the only browser that works with the school's database.

Seriously---I tried everything.

2. give help to my friends who are running windows. I'm the most technologically aware of the bunch, so when I get questions on how to do little miscellaneous things I turn on my windows.

I use Vista to download updates for vista and to backup my blackberry as pocket mac does not provide a suitable option to backup my blackberry, and to play games of course, even though I don't play games and the only game I play often is Madden 08 for Mac.

I use Fusion and Win XP to play the Netflix on Demand movies - Netflix said there would be Mac support at some point this year but until then its Windows only.

Why not? I used Windows for online banking (98 and XP) for about 12 years, without a problem, before switching to OS X.

Regardless, I've found online banking works just fine in Firefox on OS X. And I'm looking forward to eventually (I hope) getting a good finance program on the Mac so I can drop MS Money via Parallels.

Judging by the number of people who can't survive without Fusion I think it's already a "killer app". This support (if I understand you correctly) is available in Parallels but I prefer the Fusion implementation of "windowed apps".

Yep - Fusion is a great prog, but it lacks this one essential (IMO) element. Windowed apps are fine, but if you need to open a file on a remote drive and want it to open by default in Win Word (for example) then at the moment you can't just click and get the prog to open automatically... which is a pain. (You have got to open the prog first and navigate to the file or drop the icon on the open prog. It is a small gripe (and one which Fusion are allegedly looking at) but it is a major stumbling block to working slickly.

I use it for work because, believe it or not, I'm a certified Microsoft developer (MCSD) and I develop business applications with Visual Studio, using C#, ASP.Net, MS SQL, etc... I have a few VMWare's running, which is a very flexible solution for a developer.

And I play Team Fortress 2 on Bootcamp. :D

I use VMWare Fusion with XP pro ONLY to use Garmin Mapsource for sending and recieving data to and from my garmin GPS, there is osx version of the software in a loose sence of the word, from what i can gather you still need windows to use the conversion software to convert the pc maps into mac maps, i'll be waiting for Garmin to tidy the mess up before i use that method tho.

Thank you for your advice. I downloaded and tried both OmniOutliner and Circus Ponies, they're great apps. But I'm still attracted to the many features that OneNote offers.

Mac + OSX makes a very stable base to run VM's on (more so with Fusion than Parallels I think). It's a good choice for Windows techs, consultants, developers etc who need to run virtual environments for a large percentage of their working day.
