I would like to scan a QR code which is a VCARD and either display a notification with ALL the contact information, OR create a new contact with the scanned VCARD. I'm not sure it's possible : if I set a notification with the contact it only display 1 of the fields but not all

Are you able to do the scanning part though?

Interesting discussion. I am really liking Shortcuts. One thing - I have created a shortcut to easily enter in my blood sugar readings into the Health app. When I run the app though, it works fine, but I'm left looking at the Shortcut app when it ends. Is this the way it is supposed to work? Any way to have it just end up where I started (usually at Home screen).

How are you initiating the shortcut?
Instead of using “Ask When Run” as the Value, you could try a separate Ask for input step before it and use the value from that.

The advantage here is that if you run the shortcut from the widget, a number pad appears within the widget- it doesn’t jump out into the Shortcuts app.

Unfortunately you wouldn’t be able to set the meal time, not sure if that’s important to you.

Here’s what I mean

Yes sure. But I would like to do the following :
  1. Scan QR code
  2. If it's an URL ask if I want to open the link
    • If yes open in Safari
    • If no copy link to clipboard
  3. If it's a VCARD, show contacts details (either in a notification or by creating a new contact)
  4. If none of the above, copy to clipboard
For step 3 I can display a notification with the "raw" VCARD but I'd like to format it nicely

No worries, I find it frustrating there are inconsistencies like that. (Why should one way open the app and not another?) Or at least it’s frustrating that the slightly different approaches aren’t explained or made clear.

Never mind - didn’t read original post correctly.

10$ IF YOU CAN HELP ME!!!! I have two friends that have iphones and when they get a call their phone says "You have an incoming call from blank", its in a british accent and its really cool. I have the apple one that announces the name but i want to have what they have. I do not think their phones are jailbroken or anything, maybe it is just an app.
Will venmo 10$ to anyone that can help me get this. Thanks

Settings > phone > accounce calls > adjust accordingly.

No money needed thanks :p

I want a shortcut to open settings, go to safari settings and delete all browsing history by me simply saying "remove everything"

Is there a way to automatically trigger a shortcut when bluetooth connects to the stereo in my car?

I want it to automatically open Overcast and start playing a playlist. I can do the second bit just fine! :)

Unfortunately not, at the moment the shortcuts have to be triggered manually either by setting a Siri command, going into the shortcuts app itself or by using a home screen icon.

I’m sure they will allow event driven shortcuts in a future update as it seems like a natural evolution!

What I REALLY want is to be able to tell Siri how to respond verbally (like specifically what to say) when I invoke a specific shortcut. This has no real world value other than my own amusement, as far as I can tell, but I'd love to be able to specify a phrase that will be said in response to the command I give.

Overcast have added Siri Shortcuts so you can set up certain things in the app and then just ask Siri to do whatever you’ve saved as the Siri phrase.

I’ve got one so I just say “hey Siri” and when it’s ready I say “overcast play radio 2 confessions” and it’ll play that podcast I think either where I’d got to or starting the next one.

I think I’ve found the perfect shortcut for the iPhone X and models with no home button.

As of now, I’m on my device and I can’t shut it down. I can’t access settings or any apps that were not previously opened.

So my first shortcut will be one that will allow me to restart my device

I want to be able to open the Harmony App & have it select an Activity within the Harmony App which turns on a pre-programmed number of devices (TV, Cable TV box, AVR with set inputs).

I can do that now with the Harmony App itself, but I'd like to add voice controls via the Shortcuts App.

I presume though, that Harmony needs to update their App to support Shortcuts???

Ho. Lee. Crapballs. Are you kidding me? *rushes off to try it*

ETA: Okay, so I can make Siri say whatever I want.... but how do I make her say what I want in reply to a command I issue?

Open shortcuts, then press the ‘...’ button on the shortcut you want to add as a Siri command, then click the settings button which is the one at the top right. Then tap ‘add to siri’ which allows you to record a voice command for triggering the shortcut.

Okay, I get that, but I'm still confused. I have Siri phrases for all shortcuts, but that's what I say to Siri to make her do whatever thing. There is no option to run the shortcut to tell her what to say back within the shortcut for something else.

Just go to the top of the shortcut. Under the word "Done" there are 2 icons. One is the familiar "Share" icon. The other looks like two slider switches. Press that one. You'll now be in the Settings page for that Shortcut. Go down and select "Add to Siri". You'll be prompted to input your "command phrase". Once you do that, you can run the shortcut by invoking Siri and saying your command phrase. You'll still have to type in what you want Siri to say, however, which kind of limits the fun a bit.

Okay, no, that wasn't what I was hoping for. I was saying that, on top of adding my command phrase, I wish we could also specify what Siri will say back to that particular command phrase. Like instead of saying, "Okay, your scene is set" or whatever generic thing, I could specify "When I say this, you respond with this."

I should have kept reading before giving my previous response.

You can substitute the "Dictate" action for the "Ask for Input" action. Then, when you run your shortcut, you'll be prompted to record something, which will then be read back you by Siri.

There is a way of doing this and it simply involves the saving and reading of files.

Please see attached screenshots. Set sound is the shortcut that records what you want the get sound shortcut to play. Get sound then plays that audio.

Make sure the file path in both shortcuts is the same. I called the file getsound.m4a but you can call it whatever you want.

Edit: this of course uses your voice and not Siri’s voice. If you want to use Siri’s voice you could instead write a phrase to a text file and have siri read and dictate that. Let me know if you need help with this.

Yeah, I don't think you can do that yet. You could set up a set of different replies in a list and then pick from the list, but I don't think you can have a "conversation" with Siri (yet).

Is there a secret to using the shortcut titled Copy Clipboard to Notes? I keep trying this one, but nothing ever gets copied to Notes. This would be very useful to me. Thanks.
