Are you sure 'a' will happen? It all depends on the supplies of D750. I was looking at the other end of the Nikon spectrum - D3300. This was as low as £220 then when the D3400 was announced the price has actually gone up, about £280 now and the D3400 is even more. Partially this will be due to the 'poor' upgrade of the D3400 over D3300, but if there are not many D750 in stores then they are unlikely to be discounted much and the 'D760' might be more expensive and so keep the D750 prices up.
I'm not, I simply think that new products usually discounts the old one.

How likely do you think your scenario will happen with D750?

I think in all honesty the savings will be minimal on the current one, but I think the increase will be large on the new one making it look better value. Look at the A7R vs A7Rii. the gap between them was huge and the A7Rii has gone up again as a result of Brex-flation. The discount of the price on the old one wasnt as big as the increase on the new one. It is tough, we are all forecasting, none of us know.

It is only you who can make your decision I am afraid. You know you best.

I would go glass or consider a D500 - which is still a MASSIVE jump from where you are now... if the flagship DX model and will likely last you as long as a D750 would. Afterall, how many omages have you taken and said damn, that full frame sensor would have smashed this image...

You have admitted yourself you are not in the knowledge when it comes to the cameras (Leica toys). You didnt research the 50mm, buying it on the "higher price must be better" logic model - nothing wrong with that, just illustrating it wasnt for a specific photographic need. Now is FX full frame because must be better as it is dearer thinking?

If I look at my shooting, I have a Sony Full Frame and Leica Full Frames. Do I turn out images that demand those camera specifications? no. Am I in danger of bumping up against their limitations anytime soon? no. Could I have made do with a M4/3 Oly and been just as happy? yeah probably... :)

In terms of total cost of ownership over the next few years, I think we have moved even further into the realms of disposable electronics in the world of photography. We arent going to be adoring our 2009 Canikon D23456 fifty years from now the way some cherish a 1953 Leica III today... Smartphone tech is going to make this scenario even worse so I actually think this 10 year window of your camera and you being partners is optimistic. I think you will be moving more and more to a 3-5 year refresh cycle - you have to otherwise Canikon cannot survive financially. Apple are struggling with iPad sales not because they are losing share, but because users are not refreshing them fast enough. I think this inbuilt obsolescence is going to become more apparent soon.

Whats my point? well just dont sweat it... buy it, embrace it, enjoy it... if in six months you could have got it for $500 cheaper... will you get $80 worth of giggles a month from it between now and then? if you will then it is worth it...

your call. I am not replying to this thread anymore because you are at a mental stalemate with yourself and the only way it will break is if Nikon come on and say "buy it now!"... :) good luck... but in the meantime.... post some god damn pictures!!!! :)
Too much caffeine? o_O

Me too! Sat at the Dr's right now waiting for an appointment that judging by how many others are here will be at least 30 minutes late.
Maybe I'll pop to the off-licence on the way home!

ouch hope you are OK mate...

Its ok, you made a fair point.

Sorry... my point was just dont hang on to the hope of a compelling saving. Carpe Diem... and an alternate approach could be considered - a "lesser" model and more glass (lesser in quotes as D500 is actually more advanced right now I think).

and post more pictures! - this is the important one... the rest was be being nippy... mea culpa

Don't apologise Ken...the Freida Factor can try your patience. You did well and gave it your best to hang-in much longer than I did.

The problem with @kenoh is he can't relate to thinking about a purchase. Thats why he just jumps in to satisfy his GAS without thinking if he really needs anything.
Otherwise he's have switched to Nikon years ago :p

Of course being rich helps. He has so much of the stiff, when he's not lusting after glass it's Porches!

TBH we've all been there. If you have the money buy and enjoy. If you don't, buy something cheaper. (although 0% finance offers from Calumet can be tempting!).
Just shoot and post.

Calumet looks good. Shame that its £1599 though. Panamoz.com has it for £1250 :)

Who are panamoz? Are they reputable or are they grey market importers? £350 seems a lot of difference in the price. Sorry I am a bit cynic but my first question was why so cheap?

Also remember Dixon's travel in the airport if you are flying anytime soon.

I don't know to be honest but they have good rating on google and over 500+ reviews with happy people so I don't think that many can be manipulated but maybe im wrong.

Grey importers are not a road I'd go down, but yes we have covered this elsewhere.
How does one recognise its a grey importer? I only ask as I thought it was because of the warranty but this one shows that it has warranty so how do you guys spot it?

It's a Nikon warranty you are after. Other warranties are not the same.
This site is a good place to monitor pricing.

Awesome, thank you. I think graysofwestminster still probably has the best price after the rebate £1510.
Ok, I'll do this. My bday is end of april and if 100th Nikon anniversary doesn't do anything then I'll get the body as late bday present. Problem solved :)

Just experience of knowing what to look for. Like when you go to about us page and they say things like "import charges covered by us" or "free UK warranty". Dead give away because non-grey imports these two items wouldn't need to be stated as they are a given. And no mention of "authorised reseller". Then Google "panamoz grey import" throwing up loads of results.

Unless it was in the last 6 months it would have been the 105 macro.

Renting is a good way to try before you buy. But as I've said on here many times. Buy second hand.
I've only ever seen one lense that was beyond repair.
Mostly they are built like tanks.

It was a few years ago. I shot with a 105mm D-type and a G-type. I like the D-type better, mostly because how it felt in my hands.
