I agree, unless you're a developer.
Which I am not. From the other comments and threads on this topic it seems developers would require nearly a total overhaul of the file system, as opposed to just more robust or “Mac OS” apps.

As a professor using the Canvas learning management system, for instance, my life would be easier if the iPad safari were truly a desktop app. But I can still do most of what I want, even if it’s a hassle. Seems something different for the iPad barriers facing developers.

I want the iPad to remain its own thing and not to emulate MacOS, but to bring across the missing functionally for most usual tasks, so a Mac is not also required to fill in the missing functionality. Such things as format external storage, compress Pages documents and upload music to iTunes as examples. Then I can go 100% iPad Pro instead of 95% as now.
Lots of the things I need like this are still so app-specific it frustrates me no end. Images and iTunes are excellent examples. Now I need Word to let me format tables! I need zoom to let me create and manage breakout rooms (or even just switch camera mirroring)!

Indeed, for years people have wanted feature parity with desktop apps, but what we got was feature parity with the iPhone apps lol. Even today, not much separates iPadOS from iOS. They both even have Files.
