Read in another thread a link to a CNN iPad rules of Etiquette, and thought about some funny circumstances since I've gotten mine....figured I'd start a new thread....

Being that it is still new, and in pretty high demand, just curious what reaction people have been receiving when out and about and using your iPads in public places.

I tend to keep mine in a Waterfield case, so unless it's out, it arouses no suspicion.

When I have taken it out at Starbucks or Panerai Bread, I have gotten some head turns, but it's easy to pass off as a Laptop being so many people are using them in these places.

The best was in a Pizza place, I was reading the Newspaper on it when a waiter came over asking questions, then a busboy, then a customer popped over, I was going through the fun stuff showing them what the iPad does....I think Apple has 3 new customers where's my commission Apple? :D

I of course didn't purchase it for reactions of other people, but being a new bright shiny high demand product, we will tend to get them.

As far as friends and family

My girlfriend just rolled her eyes and called me a nerd lol same reaction from the rest of the family who've seen me playing with it.
Friends are just thinking it is really cool and thinking of getting one for themselves.

I'm personally looking forward to this being mainstream.

I tend to use mine a lot when I'm out for dinner by myself. Pretty much always get asked "What is that?" or "Is that the new iPad?" and the followed up by "Cool! How do you like it?".

I particularly love when the girls at Hooters or Tilted Kilt ask about it and go nuts when I show them Netflix streaming a video or surfing the web on it, or photos I've taken.

Exactly what type of films and photos ARE you showing these lovely naive ladies from Hooters? wink wink nudge nudge hehe

As for me, no reaction from the public at large that I have noticed, but I have mine in a Macally case so people probably don't even realize that its an iPad.

To which a guy would say, I'd like to give you a full tour later! :)

LOL, well, I had taken pictures at the Tilted Kilt bikini car wash a couple weeks ago, and my waitress the other night was one of the girls who was there washing cars. So I showed her the pictures... Next thing I knew I had 1/2 the girls in the place standing around me, over my shoulder checking out the pictures and ooh-ing and ahh-ing the iPad.

Good one mate. I swear that reminds me of the Monty Python sketch.
Are you girls in to PHO-TOG-RAPHY wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more.

har har

After 2 months this is my ipads first out of office public appearance. Out at a coffee house. After 30 min, nothing.

Some of these responses are priceless :p

Hey....where are those carwash photos???

Annoying. Very annoying.

At first I read these comments and thought, haha, it'll be fun, a bit of attention to a new gadget.

It's not.

I just sit down and pull it out (which I can't do without feeling like a braggart) and instantly have a few people surrounding me asking what it's like, can they use it (I feel bad if I say no, so I normally indulge). I just want to read my new WIRED magazine, leave me alone!

And then you get the people saying "Stupid, waste of money." "Just a big iPod touch, no use." "What's the point?!" I feel like saying, "Yeah, you're unemployed and lazy, no wonder you lack the money." And I've grown so tired of explaining its use. Now I say I've basically got a computer in the form factor of a touch-enabled magazine.

I wish these were a bit more mainstream (they've been out in Canada for less than a week and I'm the only one I know with one so when one is seen by someone is somewhat of a treat).

I really just want to use it but people bug you so much.

my friend: yo let's do something tonight

me: can't, obsessed with my new iPad, going keep experimenting.

my friend: you mean your big button iPod

me: we are no longer friends.

my friend = now my ex-friend.

I don't know where you people hang out, but I've had mine out on a plane, airport, park, job site(s), restaurant, a bar, hotel lobby, poolside at a hotel and just this morning at the docs office. Nobody has asked me anything about it, not even once.

I guess I never expected anyone to notice unless I'm using it like a frisbee or something.

They probably want to ask you about it but your really big feet are scaring them off. :)

Mine is in the Apple case so it's hard to tell what it is unless you are using it. Occasionally get questions.

I live in the midwest, so it seems to take a while for knowledge of new tech to disseminate it's way out here. Even when I was on campus using it, I had very few people take notice. Only 2 people have actually come up and ask about it.

I get more attention for having an iPhone(AT&T doesn't sell service out here).

Used mine in work for the first time today, lots of people liked it but would not get one they said. Two people from head office liked it a lot and said they will now buy one.

At a red light changing my music selection on the iPad and the driver next to me honked his horn and asked me if that was the iPad and how I liked it :) priceless

I overcame my self-consciousness and used my iPad to watch the end of a golf tournament while having lunch out alone (via Slingbox, over 3G). No one said a word while I was sitting, but as soon as I got up from the table, three waitstaff met me at the door and bombarded me with questions about it, all very favorable. I was using a Piel Frama case in the propped-open landscape configuration, and they had apparently been watching discreetly over my shoulder, but, this being the South, they were sufficiently polite to wait until I was done with my lunch to approach. My favorite question was, "Is it as cool as they say it is?"

Oh, and you'd never guess the WOW app: that silly free koi pond I got to amuse my neighbors toddler!

My 3G goes everywhere and has gotten a lot of attention. A lot of people are like "Is that the iPad?" ... I had a girl who worked behind the counter at a fast food place stop everything she was doing to get a pic of the iPad. She said her boyfriend had an iphone and that he was going to be so jealous that she got to see an ipad before him.

To the guy who mentioned the tilted kilt and the car wash ... Are you in Georgia? I am in Woodstock and we have one in Kennesaw and one at Cumberland Mall.
