i got a lot of stare downs and once i was in the doctor and he walked though the lobby noticing my ipad and said nothing. then when he saw me in his office we chatted it up how he tried to win one the other day

This thread is starting to sound like the Amazon Three Wolf Moon T-shirt reviews.

;)

There's some truth to that statement... I don't want to be "that guy", so I think I'll wait on taking my iPad out in public until my WolfMoon t-shirt quits working for me with teh ladies :p

I was at our county Tax Collector's Office getting a tag for a new car ... I had the iPad with me as I didn't want it to get hot in the car ... it was in a Marware case ... which I purchased for just the reason to disguise it in public. Wasn't even opened or anything ...

I was at the teller's window, being serviced and trying to fill out papers for the car tag ... and the guy behind me ask if that was the new iPad and if I would mind if he looked at it, and asked me to show it to him etc etc etc ...

I find it hard to use in public so far due to everyone walking up and asking me to show it to them ... I really do not want to be rude, so I try to just give them a brief look, and try to stay very non-specific with any details ... just saying that I enjoy using it for reading ....

But I never seem to be successful in bring some meeting to a close unless I'm the one that says, "Well, I have to be going now ..."

Hopefully it will reach a point that everyone is used to seeing them and I can use the device in public without being bothered.

anyone else?

At one restaurant I frequent for lunch they now refer to me as the 'iPad lady'. (Hey, I've been called worse. :D)

People first ask me about my case and what's in it. When I tell them the iPad they will usually ask to see it or ask me questions about it. I don't mind people trying it out but I have had a few try to walk off with it.

My first time out in public with it was at the international arrivals area at Dulles Airport in DC. Was waiting almost an hour for my friend to get through the customs line so I was of course killing the time with my iPad. No one said anything at first but at one point out of the blue I turned around quickly (just wanted to look at the clock on the wall behind me) and saw there were about 3 people behind me all angling their heads to get a look at my iPad screen. One of them (obviously embarrassed at being "caught") had the courage to ask me about it, and before you know it I had a crowd of about 6-7 people all huddling around me looking at it, asking questions, and making all of the appropriate "oohs" and "aahs." It was fun. :)
