Yeah, on the main page they only listed PPC for Wii. I thought that cannot be all, so I searched for other versions and found this: https://wiki.netbsd.org/ports/
It's probably because the Wii build is on the evbppc architecture, a Tier 1 arch (thus being primary focus by NetBSD), while our macppc port is Tier 2 (community).

You can actually see on the front page next to "others" it reads Apple PowerPC. Of course, clicking it takes you to the ports page nonetheless.

My Late 2005 G5 is currently doing time as a home server running a seedbox, MiniDLNA, and some bespoke home automations (Home Assistant doesn't want to play nice with PowerPC) and webapps. Also doubles as a speaker using MPD once in a while. ArchPOWER has given it a new life, while it's probably *the* best device for playing old games on OS X it doesn't stand a chance of being truly useable without Linux.

Am attempting an install of Sorbet Leopard onto the A1139 DLSD using the A1107 SLSD. Instructions on Macintosh Garden say to use CCC, but I see no way I can use that on a PPC Mac. So restoring the image using TDM over FW800. Let's see if I can get it to boot.

I booted up my PowerBook G4 after some time now, it's time to update packages again.

That’s simply not true.

Sure, you have some software on Linux which does not work on macOS (to a lesser extent applies to modern macOS too, all Wayland stuff, for example, like Hypr etc.), but in many contexts it is on par, and in other have functionally close or identical replacements (does it matter much if you play a video with the modern ffmpeg but Qt4 GUI? output is identical).

It's even less of a gap as Wayland stuff doesn't work on PPC Linux either.

Adelie has Wayland packages but using them results in a garbled unusable display, at least for kwin_wayland, at least at least on Shiratsuyu.

@koutakun have you considered looking in to MacPorts with PPCPorts patches? The software selection is sufficient for most tasks.

G4 Frustration...
A1107 17" prefers install from FW or when in TDM, but works once done.
A1139 17" refuses to install any other way than via TDM, then won't let me type anything in the login box...
A1104 12", stock except for max RAM, just keeps going!
I've put the PPCs away for a bit, before I start chewing the carpet...

Looks like MacPorts didn’t break too much for 10.4 so far? Good to see.

P. S. Is that Marin Kitagawa?
Nightphase is using binaries from my repository, so his work more accurately reflects what is possible using Macports with a PowerPC ports overlay. There is very little reason not to use the overlay on Tiger or any PowerPC system, as adding it is not difficult. Ninja is the most important thing still broken on Tiger on both Macports and PowerPC Ports, but the fallback which is one version older doesn't seem to cause issues.

Picked up a 15" G4 iMac last week and I'n start to rehab it. Got new fan, SSD adapter, etc. Having a hell of a time with DVD/CD drives though...

The iMac's drive was replaced at some point with a different Pioneer that ejects but doesn't read. I have an eMac G4 with a drive with the same issue. Trying to find replacement IDE drives around me has been a real pain but I stumbled across an old HP in a thrift store with two drives. Spent tonight drive testing, and of course the DVD drive in the HP also doesn't read. Meanwhile the CD drive won't eject, but it does make sounds like it might want to read. That's for tomorrow.

Do y'all have any good sources for replacement drives because this is getting really annoying.

Ninja is just the build system, as long as some older version does the job, a fallback is the easiest solution. Nothing links to Ninja, we do not really care what version it is.

Great! In that case I will make a PR to add a fallback instead of continually failing to update the patches.

Worked on my NaNoWriMo novel this year for the past 15 days daily on my Power Mac G5 using an older version of Scrivener. However, I swapped the Apple A1048 keyboard with a Realforce Topre board I have lying around today. I love the smoothness of typing with my Topre boards.

Good to know. Where can this binary repository be downloaded from?

A few key questions:

1/ Does it include any version of GIMP?

2/ Does it include Abiword 3.x?

3/ Does it include the gnumeric spreadsheet?

4/ Does it include at least one good photo viewer app?

Thanks!

Do you mean pre-built packages for 10.4 or what?

Yes @barracuda156, that is exactly what I was asking about - pre-built binaries for, in this case, Leopard. I would be happy to try out the repository IF it has the major apps that I am looking for.

If it does not, I will, as I have planned for some time, install PPCPorts and build the apps from source.

I fear I was not entirely clear - the binary repository requires either Macports or PowerPC ports to be installed first. If you are on 10.5 on a Quad, you have a lot of options.
1. Install curl and PowerPC Ports for 10.5.8 from here: https://macos-powerpc.org/ This may not have a lot of prebuilt software for 10.5.8 - I cannot find a package list. The benefit is that you are most closely tracking @barracuda156 's work.
2. Install regular Macports and use the binary repository from @Matias_ See: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-powerpc.2462897/?post=34086788#post-34086788
The list of precompiled software is available here: https://kemonomimi.nl/ppcports/software/
Gimp2 appears available, gnumeric and abiword would have to be compiled by you. I am not an expert on photo viewing applications, so I cannot comment on whether any are prebuilt. This guide should help you with using the prebuilt binaries from @Matias_ https://trac.macports.org/wiki/howto/ShareArchives2 In addition, you may want to edit opt/local/etc/macports/sources.conf to include PowerPC ports as an additional source. My preferred way to do that is as follows (not the only way, or the best way lol)
1. git clone https://github.com/macos-powerpc/powerpc-ports
2. Edit opt/local/etc/macports/sources.conf and put the path to the cloned git repo right above where it says rsync

My apologies for not being entirely clear. Macports or PowerPC ports must be installed before you can use an overlay repo or binary archives.

P.S. If you hate compile time and want the apps to be installed from the binary repo and not from source, use the -b flag. For example
sudo port -b install gimp2

Well... maybe today is NOT the day!

So far, the instructions I have found for PPCPorts all relate to Snow Leopard. I am running Leopard (Sorbet Leopard to be precise), and a lot of the steps simply don't work.

Is there a set of instructions for installing PPCPorts on Leopard itself, or do I need to fall back to MacPorts?
