Well, that explains that. Guess it gives me more reason to look into a 7410 (and stop trying to get 10.2 on it until I do).

Amidst a hard drive swap for installing MorphOS on the Companion, I figured out why the battery was shot.

The battery was not actually shot, but the connector to the logic board was not plugged in all the way. One reseat later and it charges like a champ all over again.
Glad it was a ez fix!!

The CD reader seems to be dead too... So booted form my backup System on a CF/PCMCIA adapter, initialized, partitioned in two and installed 8.1 on a partition for now.

Collected my 99p iMac G4 1.25ghz 20in model. Screen is dead but everything else works. I am praying someone can confirm I can swap a screen from iMac G5 or early C2D 20" model....

Hi All :)
Got a question. As my Quad sits nonoperational (just don't have time for repair & so on...); does it worth to by dual G5 2,3 GHz (PCI-X)? It is a bit incomplete (no videocard, HDD & DVD-Drive) but seems cheap & m.b. I'll be able to drop price even more. Already have native GeForce 5200 for G5, AGP Pro. Disk drive - not such big trouble, DVD - not even required (I made enough external drives with USB & FW connectors :) ). Main question - what is it capable of comparing to Quad? (It is clear than no gentoo compilation possible - only 2 cores :D ). I hope it supports a bit more Mac OS versions than Quad? BTW, what version of Apple Hardware test I need? (2.5.8 m.b.?)

Installing some printer drivers for my mom on her 1.5. It's really lucky that the printer we pulled out has drivers that still just barely support 10.5.8 -- it's the absolute minimum they list on their website. For some reason, their Malaysian site (which, annoyingly, comes up first and since the url is "my.canon" can get a little confusing) suggests that their driver can be installed on G3s... so maybe 10.4 is their minimum? The page was last updated in 2021...
Apparently, the printer driver works fine but the scanner requires Intel. For some reason. I guess 2018 was too late to still be supporting PowerPC but 2017 was a different story?

So the goodwill 17" powerbook is now on it's 3rd HDD in less than a year. The original died within days after purchasing it and i replaced it with another old drive. That also recently died, and now it's back with the last remaining drive i had laying around. A massive 20gb spinner. Lol. Even though i'm not a fan of Tiger, i figured it'd be a better fit for the small drive. Amazingly, after spending a few days setting everything up, tweaking, removing unneeded languages/arch's, etc, i've been able to cram 87 usable apps in here (not including default system apps) and not exceed 7gb. I even included classic. Next project is to make a backup.dmg in case this ancient drive decides to get the click of death as well. ;)

Got the 17" PowerBook G4 back up today. Connected to a secondary display. It's running three interfaces, ethernet, Airport (via the dual PC card @B S Magnet suggested) and internal Airport.

Currently reimporting music from my NAS back in to Songbird. I have it connected to my BT loudspeaker, but that connection seems iffy. We will see how that goes.

I messaged customer support asking what DRM they used and why could I play preview tracks but not full ones - this is the answer I received:

"Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Napster Customer Support.
I understand your query and issue. I apologize for any inconvenience caused. Sure, I'll help you with this.

I see an Active Napster account.

I'm sorry to inform you that Microsoft has removed DRM content since July 14, 2017. So none of the downloaded tracks will work with the Napster application due to the removal of the DRM and the MP3 player will not work either because Removing the WMDRM feature from Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and Windows 10 (1507) version for the Napster V6 PC client.

The detailed analysis of the data showed that this functionality has very little success and it doesn't merit keeping it running. So we made the difficult decision to withdraw it. However, Napster plans to focus more on other great features and integrations that will be added in future updates.

However, you can upgrade your Windows to the latest version, and download the PC application from Windows 10 that allows you to download songs for offline use. But downloaded songs can only be played in the application.

You can also use the Napster app on Android, iPhone, and Windows phones to download songs for offline use.

And regarding the Browser issue,

As of now, the Napster website can be accessed on Firefox, Chrome, and Edge. safari. And we are working with our development team to make the Napster website work on all the browsers.

I hope this helps you.

If the issue still exists, please write back to us with the status of the issue to assist you further.

If you have any other questions or clarifications, please reply to this email, we will be glad to assist you."
Oh wow … Napster still exists?? You even got a reply that is active to your inquiry?!!??

I’m so confused yet amazed at the same time reading this.
