11" A1370 MBA arrived. What a neat little chassis.

Errr wot?

That explains it...

I bought a Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz. Thought it was snappy!

I've checked the seller's page, and he's simply grabbed the wrong sliver of aluminium. If he's upset about it, I'll pay him the £15 difference! If I don't hear from him...
:D
Even more worthwhile to upgrade the storage now, so I'll set about acquiring the necessary parts. Recommendations gratefully accepted!

I hope enjoy this! And wow, what a great find! Nothing better than buying a used Mac only to discover it had better specs than what you'd expected.

I still love the 11" MacBook Air - it's just far and away one of my all-time favorite Macs. If it wasn't so cost-intensive I'd go for a used 2015, put in a new battery and SSD in it, and OCLP-it to whatever newer version of macOS it can handle.

And as for MagSafe chargers - one can never have too many MagSafe chargers...

This happened when I purchased my first Mac. :D

Same here. They're dream machines for when you need a Mac in a (relatively) ultra-portable package. Which is exactly what I required this afternoon when I had to work within a small space, scanning documents for a family member so that they could be compiled as a PDF and emailed to an associate.

Which is what I've done with an early Intel Mac recently. :)

At first, Preview didn't detect the F4100 as an available scanner and I couldn't understand why. It took me a while to figure out that Catalina was missing the appropriate drivers. Once this was worked out, it obtained an HP driver package and I was ready to get cracking.

I then used Adobe Acrobat DC to compile the scans into a single, compressed PDF document.

Told you so! :p @DCBassman

Number of Mac laptops = 4
Number of magsafe PSUs = 7
Number of Mac Minis = 1
Number of MM PSUs = 2
Just too many chargers!

Back to the MBA: the original Apple SSD (wasn't someone collecting serials?) is on the way out, so have begun the process of replacing it with an adapter and m.2 SATA SSD.

One of my cMP RX580's fan started to make terrible noise yesterday. First I thought the fan blade is touching something but no, it seems to be bearing noise or something. I took the fans out, cleaned them and lubed with some synthetic grease. It remains to be seen if the grease can get into the bearing. If not I need to use oil or replace the bearing or even the complete fan.

With any luck these are correct size...

This is it for the WD, can't find any figures for the orioginal Samsung-based Apple device.
" The power consumption of the WD Blue SA510 M.2 SSD varies depending on the activity:
  • Active: 60 mW
  • Read: 1800 mW
  • Write: 2000 mW
  • Sleep: 36 mW
  • DevSleep: 12 mW "

Those are manufacturer claims, not real world tests by some tech reviewer, right?
