I got a model specific Panther copy on to two G4s at my old job. ;)

All you need to do is pull hard drives, slip them in a case and then pretend you're reinstalling Panther to a 1.8Ghz PowerMac G5. Then you put them back.

Voila! No more OS9! :D

That's reminiscent of the craftiness that I utilised to get Mavericks running on my Mac Pro by using a modified installation that was created on my MacBook Air. Speaking of my MBA, from Snow Leopard I enjoyed a session of the River Raider demo.

A remake of the 1982 classic River Raid by Carol Shaw - this is great fun but unfortunately its impossible to purchase the code that unlocks the full game because I've been unable to contact the publisher and I can only conclude that they've gone out of business. :(

I used my still-hanging-on MacBook Pro 3,1 to help me with the colossal task of bringing my schedule under control, by putting all of my events and tasks on Google Calendar.

I actually had a pragmatic reason for using this over my MacBook Air, which I use as my daily driver: The 15" display makes working with Google Calendar much easier for me, and since it has an LED-backlit display it's much more amenable to working outdoors than my other MacBook, which has an older CCFL-backlight.

While it chugged a bit on Google's fancy UI animations, Pale Moon performed really well compared to Chromium Legacy.

Can I just say, I miss that keyboard. Best Apple laptop keyboard ever in that design, hands down.

REMAKE.?!

There's been several remakes and tributes for modern hardware platforms but unfortunately hardly any of them include a Mac version. :(

I remember original version, played at Atari console (if my memory serves me well).

Yes, it was originally released on the Atari 2600/VCS.

Your post makes me to dig it deeper. I want to see it at some of my home computer :).

I've played it in recent times on this home computer. :)

Along with this fan modded version that introduces among other things, a winter setting to the game environment.

Played around with my 2009 27" iMac's DisplayPort Target Display Mode and discovered an interesting quirk. Setup 1 involves DVI-to-DisplayPort conversion done by the Wacom Link Plus. Setup 2 is a DisplayPort "pass-through" connection.

Code:
Setups:
[1] Computer -> [single-link DVI] -> Wacom Link Plus -> [USB-C] -> CableMatters 201046 -> [DisplayPort] -> iMac
[2] Computer -> [  DisplayPort  ] -> Wacom Link Plus -> [USB-C] -> CableMatters 201046 -> [DisplayPort] -> iMac

Result: Target Display Mode never kicks in and the computer never sees the iMac's display.

I kinda get it not kicking in with setup 1: while the iMac's display EDID contains a pixel-doubled 1280×720@60Hz mode that should™ work via single-link DVI, an override present in OS X 10.6+ masks it, leaving just the native 2560×1440@60Hz mode which requires dual-link DVI (or HDMI 1.3/1.4). But it should™ work with setup 2. A direct DisplayPort connection between the source and the iMac works. Both setups work using a "normal" DisplayPort display instead of the iMac.

I have the CableMatters 201046 and the Wacom Link Plus.
- USB-A to USB-C cable connected to the Wacom Link Plus USB-C power input.
- USB-A to mini USB connected to the Wacom Link Plus mini USB input.
- Mini DisplayPort from Radeon Pro W5700 to Wacom Link Plus Mini DisplayPort input.
- CableMatters 201046 connected to Wacom Link Plus USB-C output.

I don't have a DisplayPort Target DisplayPort iMac though. Just a Thunderbolt Target DisplayPort iMac.

Is the hub of the CableMatters 201046 visible in System Information.app? CableMatters 201046 has a blue power indicator which at least shows when it is connected correctly. The Mini DisplayPort input of the Wacom Link Plus doesn't seem solid.

Does a display connected to the DisplayPort of the CableMatters 201046 work? I think you said yes. Is the normal DisplayPort display HBR or HBR2? It shouldn't matter either way. My Display worked when set to HBR, HBR2, or HBR3 (of course HBR3 is limited to HBR2 by the Wacom Link Plus).

What I did do: Finally conquer my fear and perform a successful thermal paste cleaning and replacement on my A1226 "green dot" 15" MacBook Pro.

What I didn't do: Succeed at fixing the display issue which I'm now pretty sure is due to failed/failing GPU. RIP, MacBook Pro.

Of note is that the chip on the motherboard is indeed the revised 603 version of the GeForce 8800m GT, but it has the darker substrate that's been pointed out (I think) as being the sign of an earlier-run production version.

I'm guessing GPUs with a lighter substrate are the more reliable varieties, but perhaps what did this particular GPU in was just stress from overheating.

Set up my 2012 Mini as a media box for my bedroom/office/game room tv. It's only a 720p plasma but the colours still look really good.

I used to use my Pi 4 and my 3B+ before that, both with Kodi. But I much prefer to use this Mini.
It's more versatile, it turns my old tv into an AirPlay receiver, I can use my AirPods with it easily, it also handles h265 a bit better, it has fw800 and I can use my Pi for other things this way :)

I've had a Panasonic 50" Viera plasma as my main TV for a decade now and I love its colour reproduction. Inferior to that of my Dell VGA 4:3 CRT monitor in a side-by-side comparison using the same source material but still superior to that of most LCDs. Unfortunately it's dying a slow death with a green tinge gradually spreading across the screen so I'll have to replace it and regrettably it appears that plasmas are no longer manufactured.

Mine also developed weird colours a few years ago. Mainly a red horizontal row of scattered pixels mostly visible over a white background. It never got any worse and sometimes it doesn't appear.

Our newer 1080p 3D plasma did get way worse issues to the point where almost half of the screen became too bad to use

Been using the Windows side of my 2012 MBP recently. While I have incredibly mixed feelings about Windows 10, to say the least, I needed it for a game that turned out to be Windows only. Thankfully the game runs great on this MBP. It's times like these where I wish Apple had stuck with Intel. While the M2 is better at certain things (example: faster DVD ripping and MP4 conversion), the 2012 definitely has its advantages. Being able to natively run Windows is just one of them. The built in Wi-Fi tends to be more reliable than the M2's as well, as long as I use an officially supported OS on this MBP. Sometimes I think about daily driving this Mac again and reserving the M2 for stuff that absolutely needs more power.

Todays work in InDesign 2021 and Photoshop 2021 on the 2009 Mac Pro. This will be the desktop for the Late 2009 Mini.

As always, variations and a work in progress.

For @TheShortTimer, that's Orla Brady on the right. I think she did some Sinbad thing but us Americans primarily know her as Laris/Tallinn from Star Trek: Picard.

Oh. And Ranni the Witch in the middle - from Elden Ring. Voiced by Aimee-Ffion Edwards by the way.

Your WIP's are better than most people's finished articles. :D

Thanks for that, despite being a Brit I primarily know Brady from her role on Star Trek: Picard.

While looking for images I learned the she was in a Netflix series called Into the Badlands. She plays some sort of mage I think. Since I have Netflix, I'm going to have to check it out now. :D

PS. Thanks for the kind words. Sometimes I think I'm just scribbling, LOL.

Apparently it is a desktop background kind of day.

This is the 20" Cinema Display on the right.

Next variation on the theme. I think it comes across better. 2009 MacPro, Photoshop 2021.

I liked the background on the Late 2009 Mini enough to use it here. Turns out you can't export a PSD from InDesign without a script. Ah well. Just make a PDF, bring that in to Illustrator and then have Illy save out a PSD.

You get…layers.

There is a star map that lays over the top of the image (where the stars are). In ID it has a feathered effect so I wanted to bring both those layers into Photoshop. That's why I was looking to get a PSD out of ID.
