Very nice work!

hate to be a buzz kill

Are you sure? But don't worry, you're not.

hawaiipoolman'a not trying to rip-off anybody or pass this off as a unique idea. If Apple was selling that 12-yo monstrosity today, you might have something.

I used an Adesso keyboard with a trackpad for years. While the keyboard was big and clunky, the trackpad was really handy. The mouse was hardly used.

One of my current, main keyboards is the new Apple BT keyboard. It's a little short to be really comfortable for me. I would have bought the longer version even though I don't used a keypad very often, but it's wired.

If Apple made hpm's black-keyed suggestion in a BT flavor, I'd get that in a heartbeat. Perfect. The trackball and Mighty Mouse would be on standby.

Heck, if MS made their Natural Curve 2000 in an illuminated, BT version, I'd get that.

(Say what you will about their OS, MS does make some decent keyboards.)

I love the idea of something like this. Hopefully we will get something this year to bring multi touch to the desktop users.

An idea I had was for Apple to make an official touchpad app for the iPhone and iPod touch. It wouldn't be as good as a trackpad keyboard but would be useful.

I agree that they should make a stand alone track pad. Something like the Wacom tablets used for graphic design. They could even make a special mouse device to work with it just like Wacom has done. Basically, a multi-touch one of these is what we're after.

I still think a multitouch built into the corner (top left or right 1/4) of a large mousemat (such as the one i use) would be best. That way you have plenty of room to use your mouse for precision work with the benefit of multi-touch gestures in one convenient area.

I think the Aluminum with black keys would match the iMac sooo much better than the white keys they use now. I would seriously get one of these combi keyboards, if they price was reasonable (but this is Apple and we know it will be way over priced). My guess would be somewhere around $129 to $149 for a keyboard like that. I personally wouldn't pay more than $99 for one, guess I'd have to wait for a refurb! :p.

It's a wonderful idea but......

Apple would rather sell you a $79 keyboard plus a $59 mouse and get $138 than to sell you a $99 keyboard with trackpad and eliminate your need for a mouse. This would probably kill their sales of mighty mice. unless they charge $139 for it (which is what they will probably do)

I really hope Phil announces something like this so I can have all that sweet swiping and multitouch for my iMac.

I just photoshoped this real fast, what do you think, would you buy it?
I would!

I bought a new MacBook for my niece. I felt I made a huge mistake. I should have bought at least one more of them. I'm waiting for the new 17" MacBook Pro.

I've been using a similar keyboard/trackpad combo at work for a while with a machine hooked upto a projector, If Apple released one of these I would be straight down to the store ASAP!

well since it didnt come today, i hope Apple decides to implement some type of multi touch track pad support for the iMac soon. :(

it looks like Asus has done it. i just hope that it is compatibile with OSX

Thats not just a keyboard, i beleive thats a whole PC built into a keyboard.

yeah, it is...

as for this idea, I'd love to have one, but it would NEED to be separate (or centered) for me since I'm a lefty... I wonder if it'd be possible for someone to write the software to make it work with a waacom? Although they don't work with fingers right?

Here's my idea of the Trackpad.

Added the Number Pad into it, not sure how it would be implemented, as in activated. Basically its a USB Device, so you could use it away from the keyboard with a Male - Male USB Cable, but its designed for use with the keyboard. Plug it into the keyboard, and you wouldnt lose a USB, and it would be sturdy (Maybe another at the bottom? Like fake USB, or a magnet?)

Its not the cleanest in the world, and no black keys, but there it is.

And of course, Lefty Mode.

It would be cool if the could make a modular version that attaches to the side of the keyboard using the USB port. The you could have it either side and there wouldn't be anymore wires.

But I do love the idea of a black keyboard

EDIT - for some reason the post above me wasn't showing :S

looks pretty interesting. i think this would work quite well, if we could just add the trackpad to our current keyboard. 8)
