OP: This is a good thread for a forum such as MR, so well done.
I tell myself I'm not a collector, and then I realise that I am, to a certain extent, as large quantities of some items have made their way into my homes/flats/offices.
Okay, firstly, books, thousands and thousands of them (and I have read most of them). Every office, house, flat, (and even a small bizarre, but atmospheric hotel where I lived for nearly two years in the old town of Tbilisi) where I have lived and worked has somehow managed to grow books in vast quantities.
CDs, and vinyl records - again, probably hundreds and hundreds.
Coffee-pots (some utilitarian - some simply gorgeous); chess sets, if the country where I am based makes interesting ones (Kyrgyzstan, where I spent a few months last autumn, had amazing chess sets).
I seem to have a few fountain pens, too.......and as with most of the things I have, they are used quite a lot.
While I like Apple products a lot, I don't see the need to collect them. My ownership of the Apple universe is pretty limited as I buy what I think I will need and what I expect I will use. Hence, I have iPods (two) and an MBA (used to have a MBP, but, when I bought the MBA I found I was hardly using the MBP, so I sold it after a few months).
