So it’s likely there will be a 120hz OLED display because Apple sources displays from Samsung and Samsung is making a 120hz OLED display.

But I need the entire planet to be unified on USB-C charging.

your thoughts

Samsung uses a bigger battery and higher PPI display with in-display fingerprint. We're unlikely to see 120Hz this year. USB-C was always a big NO.

I don't have any problems with the lighting cable, and it works with all the current accessories I have.

I would hate to Apple to switch to USB-C on the iPhone and find out that my cars' head units no longer work with iPhones.

I think apple might only do usb-C on the PRO? but I would love to have usb-C that way all my gadgets would only need one cable. That includes my macbook, switch, etc.

Can somebody explain me the „fuss“ about that topic and why Apple hasn’t just moved to USB-C much earlier like with the iPad Pro? What is there, a company like Apple has to consider - to me as a layman it seems pretty clear that unification would have been sweet. o_O

Honestly it would be a tad bit silly for them to use USB-C port at this point. Apple has designed cables (lightning) to make up for the short comings of standards (usb 2.0 charging specs). Apple is the reason any of us even talk about USB-C since they force fed it to us when it was the only port on the new MacBook. Again their reason was functional since its more accurately a TB3 port that does everything (with a dongle) + charge.

The iPhone though seems to be working its way toward wireless all together. There is nothing functional Apple would do with USB-C on an iPhone like they did with the iPad Pro. It would literally just be a Lightning cable with a USB-C on the end of it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against it, I could care less I one plenty of both cables. However I think its a bit late in the game to invest back into USB standards.

Thanks for the clarification - I haven't thought about the functionality of USB-C for iPad vs. iPhone, makes sense.

There won’t be 120hz or USB C

EverythingApplePro stated in his latest video that the 120Hz are disabled on the iPhone 12 by software.

120Hz ProMotion on iPhones is going to happen on LTPO displays in 2021.

I don’t care if it’s USB-C or lightning as long as there’s a port.

Killing off the port will ensure I won’t be buying another iPhone, just like I won’t be buying another MacBook after removing USB-A, SD and HDMI.

You're kidding right. iPhones will never get USB-C. Wireless charging or Lighting (for lower end models) has worked well for literally 1 BILLION iOS devices. USB-C for iPhone gets users nothing.

What happens in 2 years when Samsung follows Apple and removes all ports?

Did you make the same comment when BlackBerry got rid of their physical QWERTY keyboards?

It's simple.
Lightning was developed prior to USB-C. With Lightning, Apple already has all the features, including reversible plug, fast charging, USB3 support, etc. Then come USB-C, which is redundant from Apple's perspective. Why spent all the money switching to another connector that doesn't give any extra features? Might as well go totally portless.

The iPad Pro is different, in a sense Apple wants to position it as a laptop. Since their Macs are all USB-C, it's natural for the iPad Pro to have the same port. Note that the regular iPads for consumers are still using lightning. There's a clear segmentation.

So like another poster above, for iPhones, Apple would probably simply go portless instead doing a sidestep to USB-C for no benefits.

We here can only speculate and there have been thousands of posts on this in other discussions prior.

Apple does have hundreds of millions of active devices using Lightning. They also make money by certifying Lightning accessories.
