And if / when that happens how many USB-C to USB-A connectors will you need and have to buy.

So it’s likely there will be a 120hz OLED display because Apple sources displays from Samsung and Samsung is making a 120hz OLED display.

But I need the entire planet to be unified on USB-C charging.

your thoughts
doesn't even come to mind. I'm all in the USB-C train (iPad Pro, anker charger usb-c, MacBook Pro x2, switch). But lighting is also prevalent in my house and in my car. If any I'm switch to usb-c inputs since the fast charing is extremely important. Each car has a usb-c fast charger.

I like the idea too. However, I think it should be pushed later than 2021. It’s too soon. Wireless charging isn’t popular enough. I mean, there are people who don’t even know it exists.

I’d say that’s not accurate. Wireless charging is very popular, it’s in coffee shops, airports, library’s, and They’re cheap enough where they are very common in households. The key is, there’s still quite a few smart phones on the market that don’t support wireless charging, but almost every new GEN smart phone supports wireless charging, and now when you have consumers migrating to these newer devices, they’re taking advantage of wireless charging, which is far more predominant then it was three years ago.

I have to agree with Marlon DLTH, It may be popular but i think what he said is bang on, and that is, it's not popular ENOUGH!

Wireless charging has and is continuing to grow but it's not at the place yet where manafacturers can start removing ports.

I need to see something new with the iP12 besides a new design and 4th camera lens. It needs to be wildly better than the iP11 at something. USB-C, under-screen fingerprint sensor, loss of the notch, some new and unexpected feature, etc.

At this point I am not a fan of wireless charging. I use my phone very heavily for both home and work use. Because of this, I typically need to charge while using it. Using a wireless charger makes this difficult because I have to hold a bulky wireless charger against my phone at just the right angle while I multi-task. Much easier to just connect a long lighting cable and use my phone as usual. I am unsure if I will be upgrading to the 12 this year or the 13 next, but the lack of wired charging after the 12 has me nervous. I dont care if it’s lightning or usb-c, just needs to be wired.

Maybe I don't go to the right places but I've never seen wireless at airports, coffee shops, gyms etc. All I see is USB-A ends.

I don’t care if it’s USB-C or lightning as long as there’s a port.

Killing off the port will ensure I won’t be buying another iPhone, just like I won’t be buying another MacBook after removing USB-A, SD and HDMI.
Portless in itself won't stop me, but it sure as well will if they don't get off their butts and improve wireless charging.

What happens in 2 years when Samsung follows Apple and removes all ports?

Did you make the same comment when BlackBerry got rid of their physical QWERTY keyboards?
At least Android has some reasonable not 7.5W turtle wireless charging speeds.

Yea it's fine for home overnight, but I don't see it anywhere public around here. It can't just be in big cities. Has to be everywhere. And it needs to be faster, especially for Apple, and needs some range to it.

I have no problem. All it is is one extra cable and they make dual port chargers. My car charger has two spots to plug in. As for a portless phone no thanks I like the ease of plugging my phone to the computer and transferring pictures to it. It’s a Windows computer so iCloud has been problematic for me in getting them to download from the cloud.

I honestly couldn't care less. I already carry more than 1 cable when I travel because I need to charge more than 1 device overnight. Which cables I carry has no impact on me.

What does bother me is the transition from USB-A to USB-C on the AC adapter end. Now I have to buy more extra cables and plugs for USB-C.

That's quite a need.

I haven't noted any sign or trend suggesting Apple plans to bring USB-C to the iPhone. Maybe the 12 Pro because professional applications can involve USB-C peripherals? But I'd say that's speculation at best. Lightning is compact, water-resistant and suffices for most things, so I'm guessing they'll stay with that or aim ultimately to remove all ports on the iPhone – wireless charging and the Watch have laid the groundwork for that.

Its pretty annoying having to juggle FOUR different types of charging cables:
  • Lightning = iPhone 7 Plus
  • USB-c = Galaxy Buds
  • Micro-usb = Plantronics Voyager 5200
  • Magsafe = 2015 MacBook Air
While it would be nice and consumer friendly if Apple used USB-c for their iPhones, I finally just accepted that it's not happening so I went and purchased AirPods Pro when they were on sale ($199).

I don't understand everyone's obsession with USB-C, personally.

On sites like this, there is definitely an obsession. But I have A brilliant question, does anyone think the average consumer can actually differentiate what the core differences are between USB-C and lightning? I’m willing to believe that 9/10 consumers couldn’t tell you the difference. So do you think they obsess over USB-C? No, not at all. Lightning is still very much relevant for years to come.

Small, wireless earbuds existed before Apple and others removed 3.5mm jacks but the removal of the port created quick demand for additional adoption and innovation in regards to wireless earbuds. The same will be the case for wireless charging.

Yea I have all kinds of cables, so I would be ready if Apple put C on the phone end. The one think that is nice about a C device is that on top of the cable going in either way into the port, you also can put either end of the cable into both the device and charging port.
