For example

The app on iTunes shows back to the future and the godfather in the screen shot, both of which aren't available in the UK netflix store.

To clarify, the above statement i made is unfair

I have an American proxy i used to check Netflix USA and both back to the future and the godfather are DVD rental only.

However, we are still missing some streaming content over the USA, like Lost isn't available or Senna the movie.

I think netflix does not get the rights to stream until 30days have passed since the DVD release.
Licensing too can always be an issue - some films will not ba able to be streamed in certain countries.

I admire Netflix for using Facebook as a single login, but it feels as if you're giving all your details away for a 1 month free trial.

You can sign up without Facebook if you wish

For $8 a month, I think it's worth it, even if they don't have the latest and greatest movies. They do offer a lot of TV show, currently on season 4 of 8 of "Monk". I usually go from TV show to TV show before "Monk" I watched "Nikita".

Not sure what they will offer in the UK, but it's decent in the USA.

It is good value thats for sure

But for example, we don't have Monk, or Lost to name 2.

I'm not sure if we ever had Monk here, i don't subscribe to cable to know, and Lost moved onto cable/sky here in season 3 or 4. So i would like to catch up with some i missed there.

It's a shame because i see Lost in the U.S. netflix store, just not ours. We will have to wait and see if they get the deals.

It is slightly more expensive than the U.S. counterpart, with less content.

I am sure Netflix will expand it's content. It's always rough for early users. I am sure they have to license UK material, I am not sure what hoops they need to jump through for that. I wonder if people in the UK or other countries proxy back to a USA IP address to access US content. I would guess mostly people have either lived in the US, or have moved from the US to other parts of the world.

Have just signed up for it here in the UK. Already I'm quite impressed with what they are offering - especially all the SNL specials which is a real pain to get here. Also, most series of the stuff I've been meaning to watch but never have. If it works on my ATV2 when I get home (I don't know if they've flicked the switch in the UK yet) I'll be very happy.

I had Netflix streaming and DVD for a while.

Movie selection on Streaming is old. Very old. Was not worth it for me.
I switched to a DVD mail plan only.

In Canada they had the DVD listings mixed with the streaming. So I would click on a lot and it said not available. I think it is filtered now. I don’t see that anymore. I could be just lucky at what I chose to watch though lol. I love Netflix and could live with just Netflix and no cable. My kids and I watch I all the time and in all our iOS devices as well as our consoles, ATV 2 and even the kids 3DS.

We've been using Netflix streaming for years and still watch it daily. Since they changed their suppliers, their movie selection has dropped a bit... but their TV series selection is quite compelling. Even though its not usually the current season (which you can frequently get from studio sites via a browser), our family has watched a lot of shows that we never watched on TV initially. So you can go back to the pilot episode and just work your way through it. We have a few that we are doing that with now... Lie to Me and Warehouse 13. They also have a good selection of kids TV programming as well. For movies, its hit or miss now that they lost that one big supplier, but hopefully they'll add something back in time.

With Netflix, you do start watching the shows immediately. There isn't a time lag like you get with Amazon via Tivo. The experience is similar, but different across devices. For example on my Tivo HD, the Netflix app requires you to go online and put the content in your list before you can watch it, OR, use Tivo Search to find it. I like the Apple TV Netflix better which lets you directly search whats in Netflix and watch. In both cases, the experience is pretty good. Unless they dramatically change, we will probably continue to get a lot of content from Netflix.

Our watching of programming is roughly like this:

Cable - 45%
Netflix - 45%
Redbox - 7%
Amazon - 2%
iTunes - 1%

Then during baseball season, MLB.tv takes over quite a bit via Apple TV.

I like Netflix for watching reruns of old TV shows and movies. I also discover TV shows that I might have overlooked when they originally aired...Breaking Bad is one of those that ended up being pretty cool. Plus, I got to watch all 3 seasons whenever I wanted.

Oh yeah, great TV show. Each episode did just enough to make you want to watch the next.

Hell there was one episode where they did nothing but try to kill a fly.

I heard Netflix was coming to the uk, but didn't expect the TV app straight away... That's awesome! I'm off to try it out!

A must watch, obviously.;)

Really though, I'm told I should start watching. It's just hard for me to take Bryan Cranston seriously lol

Great series. Cranston won the lead actor Emmy three years in a row for this role. Watch it!

Netflix has a great selection of older shows and movies. I have rediscovered old favorites and found lots of excellent old movies. They add new stuff pretty frequently. The instant streaming works like a dream and the shipping for discs is fast and free. It is also much cheaper than dish or cable tv plus it has no ads.

Wow really? Ugh, I guess I'll have to convince my girlfriend to watch this with me. We just finished all 6 seasons of Dexter. It's time for something new. I was going to start her on The Wire, but after the first two episodes, she seemed disinterested.

Totally! I just finished season 2 Saturday and saw the fly episode too. Total insanity and truly entertaining. Breaking Bad is an awesome series all around. You should watch it Mr. Pink! Or is it Mr. Magenta? ;):D:)

How fast an internet connection do you need to be able to stream? I get about 2Mbps, will this be good enough?

Maybe try it? First month free, and if you dont like, just cancel it before the month ends so it doesnt cost you.

Yeah, give it a try, like NZed said, you get 30 days free. You might be on the cusp of making it work well. Depending on the local network load in your community it could be alright at times and at other times, not so good.

I have a 25Mbps connection and it works great for me.
