So far i'm massively disappointed with it.

I thought i'd search for a few things..

Modern family - Nope
30 Rock - Nope
Adam Sandler - one film!?
Will Ferrell - No films

ok how about a film....

Back to the Future - Nope
Pulp Fiction - Nope

Booooooo

Lilo and stitch - Nope
Cinderella - Nope
Cars - Nope
Bugsy Malone - Nope

What an absolute waste!!

You will be disappointed if you use this approach to Neflix streaming. You need to go on there with an open mind and watch things you find... not go on there looking for something specific. We've found a lot of great TV shows that we had never watched, and now going through several seasons. We had never seen Prison Break before and watched the whole thing over a few months... was a great fun family time. We had seen the last couple of seasons of 24, but never the earlier ones. We went through the whole thing over a 6 month time and it was cool being able to watch a couple of episodes at a time.

There is a lot of good content on Netflix, but its a small percentage of the whole set of content out there. They also turn it over fairly frequently so things come and go. Something you don't find there now may be on there in the future.

I hope so! I did wonder why Apple would allow it on the ATV but its probably because of its lack of decent content.

Oh well

They do have some good stuff i haven't watched. If you spend some time telling the system what you like to watch and rate certain films their suggestions get better.

I too was slightly disappointed at the lack of content, however, i think it is more important not to have things i have already watched but things similar that i haven't watched yet.

I'm already half way through season 1 of a decent comedy.

Providing they keep getting new content i will be happy. £5.99 p/m is like buying 1 DVD every month but you get infinitely more choice. I personally didn't tend to buy dvd's every month so its £6 i wouldn't have normally spent but overall its a small price to pay, a price that i wouldn't pay if i had sky/cable.

The films that i do want to watch again, i have on DVD which i can play through apple tv anyway.

Totally hammering netflix and averaging between me and the mrs about 20gb every day!

Good job I don't have any caps just throttling of speeds with VM but it seems to carry on working very well.

30mb down 3mb up in case anyone was wondering what I am on.

There is a massive difference between the US content and what is available in the UK and Ireland. This has a lot to do with copyright and licensing etc. Having had a quick look around what is available here in Ireland I was a tad disappointed but having said that, I have spotted a number of films and TV series that I will watch once I have the time. At €6.99 a month I will give it a go for a while in the hope that the content expands.

We have 30 Rock in the US, so it might just be a licensing issue there. Perhaps someone else hold the license currently.

The thing about that list is that for every item there are a dozen great things on there instead. The trick I use to watch Netflix instant is to spend some time now and then trawling around following the recommendations and marking ones for the future if they look interesting. I have somewhere around 150 items on there now and I'll never be able to watch them all.

TV Comedies we've discovered: Raising Hope, Black Books, Spaced, Doc Martin. Party Down
Things we've been catching up on: Weeds, Breaking Bad
Other TV shows they also have: Friday Night Lights, Bones, I think they now have all the Star Trek series, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Futurama, Sports Night, Coupling, Arrested Developnment, Parks and Recreation
Kid's/family movies: Iron Giant, Gnomio and Juliet, Spy Kids, The Oceans
Some good movies we've seen: The Fighter, Let the Right One In, Warrior's Way, 13 Assassins
Other movies they also have: The Big Lebowski, Big Trouble in Little China, Young Frankenstein, Die Hard, Elizabeth, Next Stop Wonderland...

You are correct. SKY hold many of the rights to show US shows here in the UK and Ireland. I'd say they are not too happy with Netflix and will do everything in their power to hold onto these rights.

I signed up in the UK day of release and so far am happy. £6 a month is very reasonable and there is plenty of content I want to watch. At that price I don't think you can go far wrong.

A lot will depend on how you consume your TV and films.

For 25 years I watched TV in the UK with at first 3 channels and eventually 5 and a VHS recorder with a timer. About 10 years ago I moved to a house that was cabled and I entered the world of cable.

In the last 10 years my consumption of TV has become organised. I print out episode lists for old and new shows and tick each episode off as I watch it. I have systematically worked my way through maybe 80% of the TV I watched in a patchwork fashion before cable arrived.

I love the on-demand content Virgin gives me. And I want more on demand. I have been waiting for Netflix to arrive in the UK for ages. Films I am less bothered with as I am happy to buy DVDs.

When I signed up to Netflix I did a quick run though of the 30 or show series I am currently catching up on and I found 5 or 6 that I can "complete" with Netflix. A result for me.

Of course there is load of good TV missing - but so what there are far too few hours in the day for anyone to watch all the content available!

Set up my Netflix uk account last week, gotta say i'm loving it so far, yes it may be missing some titles like 30 rock (got the 1st ep with the christmas app via itunes and want to see more!) and blockbuster films but all in all very good, 1st few days ran really well with no buffering (full series of Torchwood watched, no problems) but yesterday had a few buffering issures (netflix servers getting hammered?) great way to catch up on series i'd initially watched but never got around to buying the dvd's to finish watching the series eg 24 and watching 90's X-men cartoons is awesome, i loved them and can re-watch all over again!

Just need them to put on more old 80's early 90's cartoons eg M.A.S.K and i'll be ecstatic!!!

Adam Sandler

There are a few streaming in the US:
The best of Adam Sandler in SNL - Opera Man rocks!
Punch-Drunk Love
Anger Management

Except for the SNL one, those two might not the best from him, but there is something.

Many others in disc format.

[edit] More streaming:
Airheads
Some SNL episodes
Bulletproof

I installed it last night on my Ipad then my apple tv, i am happy i can use it without the need for my ipad or computer running. I had a quick scan through the stuff available seems good enough to pass time on a rainy day :)

I've had it for a while now and some good content.

Although I'm using an American proxy to watch some American content, their library is much bigger.

Still, great service and will continue to pay £6
