what is the worst thing you have ever done to your mac?

not mine!
mine are all liquid related. the first beverage in my alum pb was beer. I turned it off imediatley and left it half open, upside down to dry. two [friends] started wrestling and fell on me with their beers. they managed to get half my keyboard(and screen) drenched. i almost threw them off the deck, but had time after the mad dash to find paper towels to cool down.
my mouse pad was hurt. everything else was alright. when i clicked it, it would stick and go down with a "snap" and not respond quick. it would come back up but was stiff. then after my cats knocked a glass of water into it it started working again. Later i poured half a glass of wine in it. and to my surprise, it still runs like new.
no probs w/ my mac at all. its been about 5 months since the beer. 4 for the water and 3 since the wine(red).hopefully the cats will poor some more water in it

UPDATE: one and a half years later and the thing keeps on tickn.

worst thing I ever did...was drop a Tibook from about 4 feet. Luckily it landed flat on the bottom and there was no real physical damage other than a dead optical drive, which apple happily replaced free of charge.

I haven't actually ever done anything that bad to a computer. I did hit a tree with my iPod in the car though, and it totally blew up.

I treat my iMac like a baby. The worst thing I ever did to it was moving it from my apartment to our new house. I kept the original box, styrofoam, everything, so I packed it up perfectly, just how it was shipped to me - except I didn't put anything protective on the LCD. Gasp, shock, horror, yes, I know that was unforgiveable of me. Luckily the 5 minute car ride didn't do any damage...

This was actually a big problrm a few years back. A friend of mine at work had their Ti Powerbook explode while she was charging it at night. Burned down her entire apartment. Fortunately she escaped and is fine but her cat ran away when she opened the windows to get air.

Mine:

I was coming back from a meeting with a stack of boxes on a cart. the only place for my naked (no case) Pizmo was on top about 6 feet high. The cart hit a bump and the boxes shifted and the Pizmo came sliding off towards me. (Oh, I forgot to mention my hnds were full, too.) Anyway, I broke its fall with my semi-free hand and caught it just before it hit the ground like a soccer ball on my foot. I had only had it about 3 weeks. From that point on it was only transported in a double padded case.


I saw this one at the local Apple dealer:

They had one brought in that had been involved in a car wreck. A 17" TiBook, sitting on the front seat of a BMW Z3 that hit a huge tree after dodging a deer. It was bent severly and the screen would not close, but it booted right up. The tech guy even brought up the photos of the car wrapped around the tree.The guy was lucky to walk away with just a few scratches.

wow, thats a good description of my worst accident. I was careless and put my TiBook (last rev) on my iCurve on top of a desk, but i didn't notice that there were papers on the icurve (not mine) and it just slid off. No damage though.

when did they make a 17" TiBook??? Wasn't the 17" rev a albook?

You are correct. As was the 12" released at the same time. The 15" didn't go Al until some time later that year.

I dropped a tomato slice onto the trackpad of my iBook . Startled me for a second. I will now remember to put the sandwich DOWN before going for any keys. Them tomato slices are slippery.

I installed a new battery from Ebatts in my Powerbook. They claim it could not have been caused by their battery. Funny I never had smoke when charging the original. The Powerbook fried!

I had an old Mac I think it was a Quadra that I bought for #35 dollars off eBay. I dropped a screwdriver in the case while it was running and the hard drive's board just turned red and started sparking all over. It was pretty scary when it happened and the whole house smelled like burn plastic.

Mine's pretty pedestrian:

Tibook 400mhz -- new machine -- new iSkin on keyboard -- coffee spilled onto topcase. didn't get into the Keyboard because of iSkin -- maybe half a drop circled the outer opening of cd drive. Thanks iSkin!

Dropped it twice -- once tripped over power cord -- once -- it just slipped out of my hands. NO issues with it though other than slight break in tiny carbon/plastic piece under cd drive slot. Wonderful wonderful machine, my true modern learning Mac, and I've been on mac since 1989.

I do have a prayer I'm going to do right now:

Power Color Classic

I was upgrading a stock Color Classic years ago to a Power Color Classic which requires case mods, aka: hacksaw, dremmel tool, files. I finished the case mods and had to stop working on it for a few months. When i started up again I had misplaced the necessary upgrades somewhere in the garage storage area and still don't know where they are.

As a fairly recent switcher, I install Norton Antivirus 10, which I removed about 10 minutes after I installed.
Hard shutdowns are also of my dislike, whenever the Mac acts up (not very often, but it happens)
