In a coffee shop.
Dinner this evening will be cassoulet (probably even better than was yesterday's). And, it appears that something else may be on the menu as well, as the carer was phoned by a friend of hers, also a carer who happens to be an outstanding cook.

Some dish - Asian in origin - will doubtless make an appearance in due course.

Scrambled eggs (organic free range) for me, and omelette (organic, free range) for the carer and Mother.

A post dinner nap for me, as well.

I won't quite say that all is right with my world, but it could be a lot worse.

Sweet Jesus, you needed a nap after scrambled eggs?

It's winter, I bleat by way of reply.

Suffice to say, I have the gift of sleep.

But am now restored to a state of wondrous alertness, ready for online action or anything else that might take my fancy.

Much worse than the post prandial nap - which is always welcome, and restful - is that three o-clock nap attack that strikes on unusually tedious days in the office.

In my teaching days, (as I always had an office to myself), I could sneak a nap - as long as it didn't clash with a class - once, (just once) I had a close escape, waking three minutes before I was due in the classroom.

More recently, alas, the bodies/organisations/supranational outfits I have worked for have a mad addiction (well, it saves space) to open plan, or shared offices. Try snatching a nap in those challenging circumstances; try staying awake, too.

I find a coffee and/or an arranged meeting with a local interlocutor is the best possible antidote.

But, am already thinking about meals for next week. That beats international politics when I am home.

Chili con carne, or beef carbonades are both on my mind.

The carer's friend turned up with three dishes: a noodle dish, a tub of roasted chicken, and prawns with vegetables.

This arose after I had suggested taking some sausages form the freezer and was informed by the carer that this would not be necessary as her friend was heading over with the aforementioned treats.

A discussion with the carer (who has returned) revealed a lack of interest in pasta (with roasted tomatoes and pancetta, as well as onions and garlic), or gnocchi with cream and blue cheese.

The chilli dish I had in mind takes hours and hours, and we shall not prepare that today, either.

Dinner chateau nous was omelette (made from organic and free range eggs courtesy of the farmers' market) with tomatoes (organic, again, from the farmers' market) and chives (from our garden), along with fresh French bread.

Mother devoured hers, as did I; the carer had rice, as well with her omelette.

Very tasty.

I ordered in and need to stop at the market on the way home from the office tonight.

What did you order?

I arrived into the kitchen: The carer has been at work. Lots of chopping and vegetables neatly laid out. There will be something tasty and Asian this evening.

Chicken parmesan and mixed vegetables. I saved the Cesar salad for breakfast at my desk.

Hmmmm...Asian huh? I’ve been out of soybean paste for a while. Thanks for the reminder. Maybe I’ll make cold spicy noodle tonight.

I really despise this trend, the only thing worse are all-glass buildings with glass walls inside.

Anyway, as my Mom is visiting me I am looking forward to stuffed peppers this evening.

Dinner:

Thursday: An award winning restaurant - my brother took me to dinner; roast belly of pork ( with which we had Riesling);

Friday: I was at meetings all day, and it was filthy, lashing rain, gale force winds. So, biryani from an excellent Indian takeaway.

Tonight: I have returned home: The carer has prepared a most tasty Asian lentil broth.
